    • A network for a cellular communication system comprises access points (105-109) supporting cells within a region (113). Each access point (105-109) has an individual proxy address of a proxy address space which is a local address space of an address proxy (101) and a common network address of a network address space which is a network wide address space. A gateway access point (103) covers an entry point to the region (113) and detects a remote station entering the region. It then determines an access point (105) in the region to which the remote station is handed over and transmits a binding message to the address proxy (101) with an indication of the access point (105). In response to receiving the binding message, the address proxy (101) establishes a binding between the common network address and the proxy address of the access point (105). Data for the remote station is then forwarded to the access point (105) using the binding.

    • A network element (115) supports base stations (111,113) with a shared pilot signal scrambling code. The network element (115) receives a relocation request message that comprises an identification of the shared scrambling code. A group processor (205) then determines a group of potential target base stations (111, 113). A request processor (207) transmits a request message to the target base stations (111, 113) that comprises a parameter indication for an uplink transmission from the remote station (117) to the base station (101) and requests the target base stations (111, 113) to measure the uplink transmission. A measurement processor (209) receives measurement reports for the uplink transmission from the target base stations and a selection processor (211) selects a handover target base station (111) based on the measurement reports.

    • A cellular communication system comprises a base station (101) which can operate in a restricted mode wherein support is restricted to user equipments (105, 107) of a first associated set of user equipments, such as a Closed Subscriber Group. The base station comprises a profile unit (207) which determines a first transmit power profile where the first transmit power profile is indicative of the base station operating in the restricted mode. The base station further comprises a transmitter (201) for transmitting at least one common channel, such as a pilot signal or a broadcast signal, with a transmit power according to the first transmit power profile. User Equipments may measure the power profile to evaluate whether the base station employs restricted access. The number of access attempts to restricted base stations by non- eligible User Equipments may be reduced.

    • A cellular communication system comprises a plurality of macrocells underlayed by a plurality of underlay cells. A scrambling code unit (113) comprises a subset processor (201) which divides a set of scrambling codes assigned to the underlay cells into distinct subsets. A scramble code group processor (203) assigns a scrambling code group comprising a plurality of scrambling codes to underlay cells within a region. Each group is a unique group within the region and comprises one scrambling code from each of the subsets. A base station (109) for each of the underlay cells is arranged to transmit a pilot signal on each scrambling code of the group assigned to the underlay cell. Measurements by a remote station (111) may detect specific scrambling codes within each subset thereby allowing a detection of an underlay cell while using a reduced number of scrambling codes. Furthermore, a reduced neighbour list may be maintained.
