    • A gripping mechanism (10) has a carrier (12); a gripping finger (14, 16) coupled to and rotatable relative to the carrier (12); an actuator (18) to displace the carrier (12) along a displacement path (62) relative to the actuator (18); a first stop (20a, 20b) and a second stop (34a, 34b) engageable with the gripping finger (14), (16) as the carrier (12) is displaced along the displacement path 62. The gripping finger (14, 16), the first stop (20a, 20b) and the second stop (34a, 34b) are configured such that engagement of the gripping finger (14, 16) with the first stop (20a, 20b) as the carrier (12) is displaced along the displacement path (62) rotates the gripping finger (14, 16) relative to the carrier (12) into a gripping position and engagement of the gripping finger (14, 16) with the second stop (34a, 34b) as the carrier (12) is displaced along the displacement path (62) rotates the gripping finger (14, 16) relative to the carrier (12) into a retracted position. Also pallet labelling apparatus for applying a label to a strap (66) applied around palletised goods, the apparatus including such a gripping mechanism (10).
