    • A heat exchanger (10) comprises a pressure vessel (14) having a feed inlet (11) in an upper part thereof for particulate material to be subjected to heat exchange and an outlet (13) at a lower part thereof for the outflow of particulate material from the vessel (14). A plurality of heat exchange elements, such as heat exchange plates (12), arranged in spaced relationship inside the pressure vessel (14) to define flow passages between adjacent heat exchange elements (12) is provided for particulate material to flow therethrough under the force of gravity. The pressure vessel (14) has an inside wall extending around the heat exchange elements (12) and further comprises a trap, such as a baffle (22), between the heat exchange elements (12) and the inside wall for trapping particulate material leaking from the flow passages between the heat exchange elements (12) to form a gas barrier (26) between the heat exchange elements (12) and the pressure vessel (14). In one embodiment, a plurality of the traps (22), spaced along the heat exchange elements (12), are provided to form a plurality of separate gas barriers along the heat exchange elements (12). A method of effecting pressure reduction during a heat exchange operation, using the apparatus according to the invention, is also provided.

    • A flat plat plate heat exchanger coil typically used in a bulk material heat exchanger is provided. The flat plate heat exchanger coil is designed to operate under a negative internal pressure to eliminate depressions or dimples that are typically formed into the sides of these types of heat exchanger coils during the manufacture process. With the removal of the depressions or dimples the tendency for bulk material to accumulate to the exterior surface of the coil is reduced, thereby increasing the service period of the coil. The flat plate is also provided with methods of automated cleaning of the plate coil, such as applying a low positive internal pressure in a cyclic manner to dislodge material accumulated on the coil, bumping the coil to causing a shock wave through the coil or providing means to create a shearing effect between adjacent coils to dislodge material accumulated on the exterior of the coil.

    • A precision attachment device for securing a removable dental prosthesis in the mouth. The attachment includes a first section (11) operatively arranged to be secured to a fixed tooth (13), and a second section (12) operatively arranged to be secured in various positions of rotation within the prosthesis, and also being arranged to matingly engage the first section (11). The second section has a first mating member (26) having a throughbore (30) therein, and also having en elongated casing (28) rotatably disposed within the throughbore (30) of the first mating member (26). The second section (12) also includes a spring loaded plunger member (32) disposed within the casing and projecting therefrom, and a retention member (29) carried by the rotatable casing for limiting the extent of longitudinal travel of the plunger member (32). The parts can be readily positioned for use by a mandrel (96) which either engages the first section directly or which engages other parts of the attachment by a positioning matrix (97, 99, 102, 104 or 105).
