摘要： A water closet (WC) or toilet bowl usable in either in the sitting or squatting postures. The WC consists of an elongated pan (10) with a hood (11) at its front end and foot rests (12) on each side at a slightly lower level than the rim (13) of the pan (10), but at an ergonomic height above the floor for comfortable mounting. The pan (10) and foot rests (12) are supported on a pedestal which can be of free-standing or back-to-wall design. For either design, flush fluid may enter the WC from a top inlet (18). For the latter design, flush fluid may enter from a back inlet (23). Three options of flushing technology may be employed: 1 ) flush valve, 2) pressurised cistern and 3) pumped flushing. If flush valve technology is employed in a bathroom whose water supply is not intended to supply a flush valve, the space below the pan (10) and/or foot rests (12) may contain a bladder accumulator (29) to ensure sufficient flowing pressure. A hinged seat (15), with vertical walls (24) of suitable height so that when lowered and resting on the pan (10) forms a suitably high sitting surface. A coupling is disposed between a point on the flush channel in the pan (10) and the opposite face on the lower surface of the seat (15) so that when the seat is lowered, water flows from the flush channel, through the coupling and tubes inside the seat to nozzles (25) which direct a thin film of water to clean the inner walls (24) of the seat (15). When the seat (15) is raised, the coupling is separated, thus disabling such cleaning.

The volume below the receptacle and footrests is used for a cistern, fed from a normal pressurised water supply, so that the flush water source is near the siphon jet entrance at the front part of the S-bend. A hinged seat, of suitable thickness / height so that when folded down and resting on the receptacle, forms a suitably high ring-shaped sitting surface.
