    • A method for automatically prompting a car call in an elevator system, determining the number of passengers, allocating the elevator car alternatives as serving elevator cars (110) for the passengers. The elevator system including a door sensing device (122) and a surveillance device (131) for monitoring passenger actions, thereby defining the starting point and the final point of a passenger's traveling path. The method also includes calculating a passenger's traveling time period, thereby yielding a time forecast of the passenger's arrival time at a waiting lobby (108). A cost function containing at least one landing time factor is determined for calculating the cost value of each elevator car alternative. The alternative that gives the lowest cost value is allocated as the serving elevator car for the passenger. The elevator system also receives information from external devices via one or more communicative linkages for system operation.

    • An intelligent flushing system uses odor sensors and cameras to monitor interior conditions of a plumbing product and detect wastes. Recognition of need to activate a flush mechanism is determined by a control unit in accordance with conditions and wastes detected through processed sensor data and camera captured images. Water conservation is achieved by performing diagnostic and preinstalled flush procedures with controlled flush volumes. Flush performance assessment results and related data are stored in a database for statistical analysis and fine-tuning computation for continuous operation betterment. An apparatus with control methods coordinate data and signal processing, flush activation, data storage and communication. All processed information may be transported between various individually operable intelligent flushing systems, information systems of the user, supplier and others via network connection.

    • The present invention provides a circuit (70) for detecting a change in light intensity, comprising: a voltage source (100) with a positive terminal and a negative terminal; an analogue to digital converter, the analogue 'to digital converter comprising: a phototransistor (110) operable to receive incident light, the phototransistor having a collector and an emitter, the collector connected to the positive terminal of the voltage source; a capacitor (120) having a first terminal connected to the emitter of the phototransistor, and a second terminal connected to the negative terminal of the voltage source, wherein charging of the capacitor is dependent upon the light incident on the phototransistor; and a microcontroller (150) having a first input terminal connected to the first terminal of the capacitor; wherein the microcontroller is operable to monitor light intensity incident on the phototransistor, and to compare changes in the light intensity with a profile pre-stored in the microcontroller. The present invention further provides a spray system including the above circuit for detecting a change in light intensity, so as to judge whether a replaceable refill is a genuine refill or a non-genuine refill.
