    • An encoded clip generator comprises an input interface (402) for receiving source raw audio/video data from a media source (30). The source data comprises a series of complete video frames and a corresponding series of audio frames. The generator also includes an editor interface for receiving a clip start position and a clip end position. The generator includes a processor (410) and a memory (420) containing instructions for controlling the operation of the processor (410). Included in the memory (420) is a selection module (422) for generating a raw audio/video clip comprising video frames and audio frames selected from the source data according to the received clip start and end positions to provide an unextended raw audio/video clip; an extension module (424) for extending the unextended raw video clip by adding additional video frames and additional audio frames; an encoding module (426) for encoding the extended raw video clip to form an encoded extended video clip; and a trimming module (428) for removing excess video and audio frames from the encoded extended video clip such that all of the desired video frames are included and such that the duration of the encoded audio stream is at least as long as the duration of the encoded video stream remaining.

    • The present invention relates to a heat exchanger (1) and in particular to a heat exchanger comprising a static mixer device (6) element (8) having a heat exchange surface in thermal connection with a temperature control means (7). Very efficient temperature control of fluids (17) can be achieved with the heat exchanger which produces a very thorough mixing of the fluid flow so that the fluid (17) in contact with the heat exchange surface (8) is repeatedly exchanged with other parts of the fluid flow so as to bring different parts of the fluid into contact with the heat exchange surface until substantially the whole of the fluid flow has been contacted by the heat exchanger (1) thereby facilitating a particularly accurate and uniform control of the temperature of the fluid flow. Fluids that may have their temperature controlled with the heat exchanger invention may be organic and/or inorganic and include for example water, biological fluids such as blood or plasma, food products such as mayonnaise, ice cream and industrial products such as paints, chemicals.

    • The present invention relates to a device (1) suitable for use in use in the sterilization of a fluid (17) such as a biological fluid or a fraction thereof, containing lymphocytes and/or micro-organisms. The device (1) comprises a vessel (2) having an inlet (4) and an outlet (5) and a passage (3) which extends non-tortuously therebetween. The passage (3) has a heat exchange device (14) with a heat exchange surface (10) in substantial direct thermal contact with the interior of the passage (3). A temperature control means (7) is formed and arranged to maintain temperature of fluid (17) in the passage (3) below a temperature at which fluid (17) components may form insoluble particles during irradiation. The passage (3) has a wall which is substantially transparent to a lymphocyte and/or micro-organism inactivating radiation (20). The passage (3) contains a static mixer device (6) which is formed and arranged for thoroughly mixing the fluid (17) in use of the device so as to bring substantially the whole of the fluid (17) into an irradiation zone (19) extending along and in substantially direct proximity to the passage walls (3) during passage between the inlet (4) and the outlet (5) and into contact with the heat exchange surface (10). In use of the device (1) substantially the whole of a body of fluid to be sterilized passes through the vessel (2) and may be exposed to a similar substantial level of irradiation whilst maintaining it at a safe temperature.

    • The present invention relates to a portable wound cleaning apparatus (1) suitable for use in the cleaning and treatment of wounds. The apparatus (1) comprises a cleaning liquid inlet (4); a pump ( P ) for conveying liquid (6) from the inlet (4) through an irradiation passage (12) to an outlet nozzle (26). The irradiation passage (12) is enclosed within an irradiation chamber (14) for irradiation by ultraviolet radiation (16) of an effective sterilizing wavelength from an irradiation source (18). The irradiation passage (12) has a wall (24) substantially transparent to the effective sterilizing wavelength of ultraviolet radiation (16). The pump ( P ) for conveying the liquid (6) is provided with a flow control valve (28) for controlling delivery of cleaning liquid (6 A ) from the outlet nozzle (26). The pump ( P ) for conveying the liquid (6) and the irradiation passage (12) and the irradiation source (18) are formed and arranged so that in use of the apparatus (1), the liquid (6) is subjected to an effective sterilizing dose of irradiation (16) during transit through the irradiation passage (12) so that in use of the apparatus (1) a sterile flow of cleaning liquid (6 A ) may be delivered through the nozzle (26) to a wound to be cleaned.

    • The present invention relates to the sterilisation (in the sense of rendering free from cells or organisms capable of division e.g. lymphocytes, protozoans, bacteria, viruses) of blood or other fluids. The present invention provides an apparatus (1) for use in the ultraviolet irradiation of the fluid (8), which comprises a vessel (2) having side walls (4) substantially transparent to ultraviolet radiation of an effective inactivating wavelength; a turning vessel support (3) for supporting and allowing said vessel to turn on said support which is driven (23) so as to directly or indirectly turn the vessel on the support. U.V. irradiation means are provided for irradiating at least part of the turning vessel (2). In use of the apparatus a thin layer (9) of the fluid (8) adjacent the wall surface (10) of the side wall (4) is carried round past the ultraviolet irradiation means (7) and sterilised thereby and mixed with the main body of said fluid (8). The present invention also provides a method of inactivating undesired microorganisms in a biological fluid (8) in an apparatus (1) of the invention.
