    • A unit (1) for applying opening devices (2) to packages (3) of pourable food products having a rupturable portion (5), the unit having a step-operated linear first conveyor (8) for the packages (3); a step-operated linear second conveyor (9) for the opening devices (2); and a step-operated carousel conveyor (10) having a rotary supporting structure (24), and a number of grippers (26) fitted to the supporting structure by means of respective supporting and actuating assemblies (27), and for picking the opening devices (2) up off the second conveyor (9) at a pickup station (11), and feeding the opening devices through a number of work stations (13, 14, 15) to an application station (12) where the opening devices (2) are applied to respective packages (3) on the first conveyor (8); and wherein position errors of the rupturable portions (5) of the packages (3) with respect to a theoretical position are determined at a station (127) located along the first conveyor (8) and upstream from the application station (12), and are compensated by varying the position of the gripper (26) at the application station (12) in a horizontal plane by adjusting the respective supporting and actuating assembly (27).
