摘要： Apparatus for turbulent mixing of fluids in, combustion apparatus. Conduits extend into a combustion chamber in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of a first fluid stream. Each conduit has a first outlet for injecting a jet of a second fluid, such as air, into the first fluid stream in said transverse direction. The jets are directed such that they are offset from said axis. The jets combine so as to form a first swirling stream of second fluid around said axis. The first and second fluid streams combine to form a first spiral flow path along the chamber. The wall of the chamber may have at least one passage therethrough extending in a direction transverse to the direction of flow of the first fluid stream. The second fluid passes into the chamber through said passage and combines with said first fluid stream.

摘要： Thermal treatment apparatus for combustion, gasification or pyrolysis of material into at least a gas and a solid residue. Material (3) is transported through gasification or combustion chamber (1) at a predetermined rate. The chamber has an air inlet (11) to said chamber, a gas outlet (2) and a pressure transducer (15) for determining the pressure in the chamber. The pressure in the chamber is compared to a target pressure. If the pressure falls outside the target range the volume of air introduced into the chamber through the air inlet is increased or decreased by restricting or encouraging the flow of exhaust gas out of the chamber so as to change the pressure in the chamber. The pressure differential between the chamber and the surrounding determines the air drawn in to the chamber.

摘要： Combustion apparatus comprises a combustion chamber and an exhaust conduit for the products of combustion. A damper in the exhaust conduit rotatable on a shaft so as to control the flow of exhaust gases. The damper body interior periphery is hollow and the shaft has a passage for cooling fluid that is in communication with the hollow portion of the body. The passage is connected to a supply of cooling fluid. The damper body is coated in a layer of ceramic material. The arrangement permits the damper to be used at high temperature without cracking or other failure as a result of thermal shock.
