摘要： A network control apparatus for controlling via a first network a media storage device, and a network control apparatus for remotely monitoring such a device. Timecode information from the media storage device is sampled, and output via the network such that not all stored timecode information produced is output. An indication of the rate of change of timecode is also output. The remote monitoring apparatus receives timecode information and rate of change information and derives reconstructed timecode information. The invention is applicable to remote operation of a VTR or VTRs over a network, for example for archiving in a media production application.

摘要： A method of managing data for transmission in a media management system comprising a data storage device (130) and a transmission system (119) is described. The method comprises identifying data in the data storage device (130) relating to a transmission by a transmission device (114); defining a scheduled transmission time for the transmission; determining a transfer time based on the scheduled transmission time and loading data from the data storage device (130) into the transmission device (114) at the transfer time. In this way, a reduction in the storage capacity required at the transmission device (114) can be achieved. Further examples describe the use of a router (112) for routing communications between a media editing system (121) and the transmission system (119).

摘要： There is described a method of distributing rights-managed media data items to users, wherein each media data item has associated rights information, including a time-limited availability attribute. The method comprises, for each media data item: in a seeding phase; storing the media data item; receiving requests for the media data item from a plurality of users; determining the availability of the requested media data item based on the associated rights information; transmitting the requested media data item to the plurality os users: and storing information identifying the media data item, the associated rights information for the media data item and a list of users who have received the media data item. In a peer-to-peer phase the method comprises receiving requests for the media data item from at least one further user; compiling a list of sources of the media data item in a peer-to-peer network based on the list of users who have received the media data item; determining the availability of the requested media data item based on the associated rights-information; transmitting the list of sources to the at least one further user to enable the user to obtain the requested media data item via the peer-to-peer network; and storing information identifying the requested media data item, the at least one further user and the rights-information of the requested media data item.

Input media data is received from a media data source at a first resolution and is stored in a first archive at the first resolution. The input media data is also converted to a second resolution and at least a portion of the converted media data is provided to at least one editing system.
