摘要： An apparatus and method of manufacturing a totally recyclable interior trim part (10) is disclosed. The trim part (10) includes a recyclable fibrous batting (12), such as polyethylene terepthalate (PET), a carbon-fiber batting, a polypropylene-fiber batting, or the like. The fibrous batting (12) is defined by a vertically lapped multiple fiber dinure that is homogeneously blended together. As a result of the vertically lapped fibrous batting, an increased structural integrity and reduced mass and weight of the interior trim part is realized. The interior trim part also achieves improved acoustics, modularity, and dimensional stability. The fibrous batting (12) may be intermediately located between optional layers of fiber reinforcement (14). The interior trim part (10) may include an optional layer of adhesive film/webbing material (16), first and second scrim materials (18) and (2), and a coverstock material (22). A method of manufacturing the interior trim part (10) is also disclosed.

The energy absorbing material may comprise, for example, an expanded polypropylene (EPP) material. In one embodiment, the core layer (12) is made of a material with heat absorption or insulation properties. The layer of metalized film (14) is made of a material having heat reflective properties that can be bonded to the core layer (12). Alternatively, a compatible bonding agent can be applied to the core layer, the metalized film, or both. To form the vehicle panel (10), the layer metalized film (14) is positioned on one half of a mold tool and the core layer (12) is positioned on the other half of the mold tool. Heat is applied to the core layer (12) and the mold tool is closed such that the heat from the core layer (12) causes the metalized film (14) to be in a formable state and bonds to the core layer (12).
