摘要： A method for marking an egg shell wherein a laser beam is directed onto the egg shell so as to discolor an outer layer of the egg shell without etching substantially into layers of the egg shell underneath the outer layer. The laser delivers a spot with a power density below about 2000 watts/sq. in. and a depth of an etching of the egg caused by the laser marking process does not exceed about 25 microns. InkJet printing may be added to the laser marking process or used instead of laser marking. Eggs may be marked in-carton, on a packer conveyor or on an apparatus fed by a packer conveyor, with eggs uniformly oriented in the package prior to (and after) printing. Marking is done in-carton, on-conveyor whether the marking is by laser, by ink, or both.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention provide seals for retaining hearing devices in the ear canal. An embodiment provides a seal for a hearing device comprising a curved shell having a wall and an opening at a shell apex portion. The shell wall defines a cavity for retention of a hearing device component with at least a portion of the shell comprising a resilient material having sound attenuating properties. The shell has a structure such that a force for removal of the seal from the canal is greater than a force for insertion of the seal into the canal. That structure can have an umbrella or cup shape. The structure can be configured to act as a mechanical toggle when acted upon by a laterally applied force to the shell. The structure can also be configured to exert a constant frictional force against the canal wall during insertion into the ear canal.

Also, the shell wall (130) can have a water vapor transmission rate to reduce moisture accumulation in the canal (10) during periods of extended wear to reduce the incidence of infection and otitis.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention provide a protective cap assembly for a CIC hearing aid. The assembly comprises a perforated cap configured to be mounted over the lateral end of the hearing aid to protect the hearing aid from contaminants. At a least a portion of the cap includes a protective coating and a plurality of perforations. The placement and size of the perforations can be configured to provide sufficient aeration and drainage to reduce a relative humidity of the cap interior when the hearing aid is positioned in the ear canal. The perforations also operate as sound conduction channels for conducting sound to the cap interior. The perforations have a minimum size wherein a single perforation provides sufficient acoustic transmittance to a hearing aid component such that a hearing aid performance parameter is not substantially adversely affected. They can also be configured to provide splash protection for the cap interior.

摘要： The present invention expands a spinal (3) canal by drilling a cylindrical passage (7) in each pedicle (2) of a vertebra (1), making a circumferential pedicle cut (osteotomy) (11) through each pedicle (2) from within the passage (7), separating each pedicle cut (11) by inserting an implant (16) into the passage (7) which distracts the pedicle cut (11) to expand the spinal canal (3), and securing each pedicle cut (11), allowing the vertebra (1) to heal with the spinal canal (3) expanded. The implant (16) includes an outer sleeve (17), an inner bolt (18), and expandable flanges (21). The outer sleeve (17) includes an upper portion (19) and a lower portion (20), with the expandable flanges (21) connected to the lower portion (20) and housed within the upper portion (19). Rotation of the inner bolt (18) causes the upper and lower portions (19, 20) of the outer sleeve (17) to separate, causing the pedicle cut (11) to widen and the expandable flanges (21) to radially extend into and stabilize the widened pedicle cut (11) to effectuate expansion of the spinal canal (3).
