摘要： One embodiment of the invention provides culture-expanded canine progenitor cells of non- embryonic origin that can be maintained in culture in the undifferentiated state or differentiated to form cells of multiple tissue types. The culture-expanded cells are post-natal somatic cells that can be characterized by one or more of the following: a population doubling rate of less than about 24 hours; a normal karyotype; can differentiate into at least two cell types of the mesodermal germ layer; extended replication in culture and express markers of extended replication, such as telomerase; and express markers of pluripotency. Also provided are methods of isolation and culture as well as therapeutic uses for the cells, such as treating musculoskeletal and inflammatory diseases and disorders. Additionally provided are cell banks that can be used to provide the cells for administration to a subject, drug discovery methods, and compositions of cells, such as in pharmaceutical compositions.

摘要： The invention is generally directed to a method of enhancing proliferation of T regulatory cells (Tregs) in vitro, comprising contacting Tregs with cells (I), or conditioned medium from the cells, in the presence of one or more Treg stimulation agents. The Treg stimulation agent(s) is present in an amount and for a time effective to stimulate proliferation of the Tregs. The cells (I) are present in an amount and for a time effective to enhance proliferation of the Tregs. The cells (I) are non- embryonic stem, non-germ cells characterized by one or more of the following: extended replication in culture and express markers of extended replication, express markers of pluripotentiality, and have broad differentiation potential, are not tumorigenic or transformed, and have a normal karyotype. The invention is also directed to methods for immune modulation using the proliferated Tregs, cell banks, drug discovery methods, populations, and compositions of the proliferated Tregs.

摘要： The present invention provides methods that increases the graft survival rate of pancreatic islets after pancreatic islet transplantation, maintains the survival of pancreatic islets ex vivo, and reduce the number of transplanted pancreatic islets required for normalizing blood glucose levels. When performing pancreatic islet transplantation, by pre-incubating pancreatic islets with stem cells or by transplanting pancreatic islets and stem cells in contact with each other, it is possible to significantly improve graft survival rate of transplanted pancreatic islets and reduce the number of transplanted pancreatic islets required for normalizing blood glucose levels. The invention also provides compositions for pancreatic islet transplantation comprising the islets and the stem cells or conditioned medium from stem cell culture islets. Thus, the composition and methods are useful for treating diabetes.

摘要： The invention is generally directed to reducing inflammation by means of cells that secrete factors that reduce leukocyte extravasation. Specifically, the invention is directed to methods using cells that secrete factors that downregulate the expression of cellular adhesion molecules in vascular endothelial cells. Downregulating expression of cellular adhesion molecules reduces leukocyte adhesion to the endothelial cells such that extravasation is reduced. The end result is a reduction of inflammation. The cells are non- embryonic non-germ cells that have pluripotent characteristics. These may include expression of pluripotential markers and broad differentiation potential.
