    • External compositions for the skin which contain a fermented milk product obtained from Kefia grain together with a pharmaceutically or cosmetically acceptable carrier; a method of treating the skin using the same; the utilization of the same; and a cell activator, a skin aging inhibitor, a whitening agent or a melanogenesis inhibitor containing a fermented milk product obtained from Kefia grain. The above-described external compositions for the skin contain a fermented milk product obtained from Kefia grain, preferably Kefia and/or Kefia whey, as the active ingredient. Because of having various favorable effects of activating cells, preventing the skin from aging, whitening, inhibiting melanogenesis and so on, these external compositions for the skin are highly useful as cosmetic compositions, scalp/hair care compositions, therapeutic compositions for skin diseases, etc.

    • A method for detecting a hydrogen radical in water or an aqueous solution which comprises adding a sodium salt of 3, 5−dibromo−4−nitrosobenzenesulfonic acid (DBNBS) to a sample and detecting a color caused by absorption characteristics of the resulting solution; a method for the quantitative analysis of the hydrogen radical which comprises blowing a hydrogen gas through a solution of 1, 1−diphenyl−2−picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) having an absorption near 517 nm and a solution of a sodium salt of 3, 5−dibromo−4−nitrosobenzenesulfonic acid (DBNBS) in the presence of a platinum black at a constant rate, and determining the concentration of a hydrogen radical using a calibration curve C in a graph illustrating the relationship between the absorbance of the absorption near 450 nm ascribed to a DBNBS azo compound and the concentration of a hydrogen radical.
