    • A plastic identifying method comprises (i) a step of allowing the infrared ray of predetermined wave number to be incident on a substance to be identified and containing a plastic, and measuring the intensity of the infrared ray totally reflected by the substance to be identified, thereby obtaining a first infrared absorption spectrum and (ii) a step of collating the first infrared absorption spectrum with the infrared absorption spectrum group measured to the predetermined substance group, thereby identifying the plastic contained in the substance. The predetermined substance group contains the plastic, and each infrared absorption spectrum of the infrared absorption spectrum group is obtained by allowing the infrared ray of the predetermined wave number to be incident on each substance contained in the predetermined substance group, and measuring the intensity of the infrared ray totally reflected in the substance. The collation is performed by comparing the peak of the first infrared absorption spectrum with the peak of each infrared absorption spectrum of the infrared absorption spectrum group. In this identifying method, the kind of the plastic can be identified with excellent accuracy even when additives such as pigment and flame retardant are contained.
