    • An optical disc of a thicker supporting section and a thinner recording section inludes a reinforcement section of a predetermined width which overlaps a supporting section and a recording section. The reinforcement section strengthens the structure of the optical disc and raises the resonant frequency of the optical disc, so that the vibration of the optical disc is suppressed, thus making the disc suitable for high speed (16x up) reading/writing. The optical disc comprises: a circular opening disposed in the center of the optical disc; an annular recording section for recording information; an annular supporting section disposed between the annular recording section and the circular opening, wherein the annular supporting section is thicker than the annular recording section; and an annular reinforcement section which is disposed on one of the two sides of the optical disc and overlaps the annular supporting section and the annular recording section

    • An optical disc includes a round opening at the center of the optical disc, an annular recording section configured to record information, an annular supporting section between the round opening and the annular recording section and configured to support the optical disc, and a spoiler provided on a non-read/write side of the annular recording section and configured to disturb the flow field inside the optical disc drive when the optical disc is rotating, the spoiler having a centerline average roughness between 2 μm and 10 μm, a thickness between 0.02 mm and 0.05 mm, an area occupying at least 5% of the non-read/write side. The flow field so disturbed changes from a laminar state to a turbulent state and thus the read/write characteristics of the disc is improved due to lower air resistance experienced by the rotating disc.

    • A decoding method is presented for error-correcting codes based on the syndrome decoding scheme. The improvement in the high-speed error-correcting capability is achieved by searching a syndrome-error table, which is built upon the mathematical basis. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the set of all syndromes and the set of all correctable error patterns. Two embodiments of the present invention are described. The first embodiment uses a full syndrome-error table, whereas the second uses a partial syndrome-error table. The method includes the steps of calculating a syndrome corresponding to the received bit string and determining whether the syndrome is a zero bit string. If the syndrome is not a zero bit string, determining an error pattern from the syndrome-error table and correct the corrupted codeword using the error pattern.

    • A method of generating power is disclosed wherein a liquid having a boiling point near the ambient temperature when it is under atmospheric or moderately higher pressures, preferably propane, isobutane, Freons or ammonia, is placed in a pressure vessel, heat energy is gathered from a naturally occurring heat sources, such as by solar collectors or from hot springs, geothermal or other heat sources, and transmitted through conduction heat pipes to the liquid in the pressure vessel, and the liquid is thereby heated to the boiling point and vaporized. When a liquid is vaporized, its volume expands by several hundred times, creating a pressure sufficient for driving motors. This invention can be used in automobiles, motorcycles, generators, ships, homes, factories, and other suitable places to drive motors, thus reducing the use of petrochemical fuels.
