    • A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine comprises a nozzle body (14) having a spray tip (18) with at least one spray orifice (28) and a needle (22) slideably arranged in said nozzle body (14) in order to control the spray orifice (28). A control chamber (40) is associated with the needle (22), which, in use, is filled with high-pressure fuel in order to exert, at least indirectly, a pressure force on said needle (22) in its closing direction; the control chamber (40) being in communication with a high pressure fuel channel (34) through an inlet restrictor INO (70) and with a low pressure drain through an outlet restrictor SPO (72) via a control valve (46) to selectively allow or hinder the flow of fuel out of the control chamber through the outlet restrictor (72). The inlet restrictor (70) and outlet restrictor (72) have respective geometries that are designed so that the ratio of outlet fuel flow rate over inlet fuel flow rate increases at low fuel temperatures, as compared to normal fuel temperatures at same fuel pressure, in order to cause a greater pressure reduction in the control chamber (40).

    • A high pressure fuel pump (10) comprises a pump head (12) from which extends a turret (16), a blind bore (20) extends along amain axis (A) from a pumping chamber (22)then through the turret (16) until an open end (24). A piston (32) is arranged in the bore (20) and protrudes out of the pump turret, the outer extremity (36) being provided with a cam follower. A spring (40) is arranged around the piston (32) and slipped over the turret (16), the spring (40) is compressed between the cam follower and the main part (14) of the pump head. The pump (10) is further provided with a cup shape sleeve (42) arranged around the turret (16) and reserving a thin volume (54) between the turret (16) and the peripheral wall (46). The bottom face (44) of the sleeve is provided with a hole (50) through which extends the piston (32). In operation, part of the fuel pressurized in the pumping chamber (22) leaks between the piston (32) and the bore (20), gets out of the turret (16) and fills said thin volume (54) prior to exiting the sleeve (42).
