摘要： An electrically-variable optical device includes a planar optical element (POE) and at least one electromechanical layer. The POE includes at least one optical layer. The at least one electromechanical layer is configured to spatially deform the POE to change an optical parameter of the POE. The at least one electromechanical layer may include a dielectric elastomer actuator (DEA) which includes electrodes and an elastomeric spacer between the electrodes. An electric field may be introduced between the electrodes to deform the spacer, which in turn deforms the POE.

摘要： Methods of producing nanowires and resulting nanowires are described. In one implementation, a method includes heating a reaction mixture including (i) a solvent; (ii) a metal-containing reagent; (iii) a templating agent; and (iv) a seed-promoting agent (SPA) that is a source of halide anions, thereby producing a product that includes nanowires of the metal. The solvent includes at least two hydroxyl groups per molecule. A ratio of a concentration of the halide anions in the reaction mixture to an overall concentration of the metal in the reaction mixture, including ionic and elemental metal forms, is up to 10. The heating is carried out at a seeding temperature, followed by a growth temperature that is higher than the seeding temperature.

A processor is coupled to the node network, and receives motion information and acoustic information from the node network. The processor determines from the motion information and the acoustic information a source of acoustic emissions within the human body by analyzing the acoustic information in the time domain to identify an event envelope representing an acoustic event, determining a feature vector related to the event envelope, calculating a distance between the feature vector and each of a set of predetermined event silhouettes, and identifying one of the predetermined event silhouettes for which the distance is a minimum.

摘要： In one embodiment, a method includes instructing a pattern generator to provide an excitation pattern to a sample under test, and controlling a movable mechanism that receives an emission pattern from the sample under test responsive to the excitation pattern. The controlling includes causing the movable mechanism to sweep a representation of the emission pattern along a path, thereby creating at least one streak, and synchronizing the motion of the movable mechanism with the frame rate of an imaging device, such that a full sweep of the representation of the emission pattern along the path corresponds to approximately one frame of the imaging device. The variable intensity of each streak represents a corresponding time varying intensity of a portion of the emission pattern. The varying intensity of a portion of the emission pattern may be captured with sub-millisecond resolution.
