    • A dispensing valve (10) has a stop (20). The valve (10) has a surface (28) defining an opening (30). The stop (20) is adapted to be moveable between a first position abutting the surface (28) to seal the opening (30) and a second position spaced from the surface (28) to open the opening (30). The stop (20) is formed in an injection-molding process and has a base (52) adapted to be connected to the valve (10). A sealing member (54) is connected to the base (52) by a hinge member (60). The sealing member (54) has a frustoconical outer surface (62) and a sealing surface (66) at a distal end thereof. The sealing member (54) extends away from the base (52) in a first molded position (MP) wherein the sealing surface (66) faces generally away from the base (52). The sealing member (66) is foldable at the hinge member (60) to a second position (FP) wherein the sealing surface (66) faces generally towards the base (52). A portion of the sealing member (54) is adapted to pass through the opening (30) wherein the sealing surface (66) is adapted to abut the valve surface (28). The method of making the valve stop (20) is also disclosed.

    • A pump has a flexible liner which is expanded and contracted by application of positive and negative fluid pressure for receiving and discharging fluent material. The liner is received in a rigid shell which defines the maximum volume received. In discharging fluent material, a vacuum is applied to one side of the liner, while applying pressure to the other side so the liner is collapsed against the rigid shell. The liner is arranged so as to be the only part of the pump which contacts the fluent material, and is replaceable to effect rapid and easy cleaning of the pump. The liner has multiple pump cells which can expand and contract for moving fluent material through the pump cell. The pump cells can be sized and arranged so that by selection of particular pump cells which receive the fluent material, precise volumes can be metered by the pump.

    • A medical infusion system including a lineset used for delivering fluid, such as a liquid medicinal substance, to a patient from a source such as an IV bag (18) through operation of an electric component (30) is disclosed. The preferred infusion system (10) includes disposable tubing (12) having first and second ends (16,17) attachable to at least a first and second medical component, and a power supply (14), such as a fuel cell, battery, battery pack, power paper, or a combination of the same, attached to the tubing (12) wherein the power supply (14) is configured to be activated to provide electric power to the electric component (30). Such configuration may include the use of an activating member, such as a fluid pump. The preferred power supply (14) is a fuel cell (32) having a reactant source and a barrier (54) separating the reactant source from a reaction chamber (46). The barrier (54) is preferably selected from the group consisting of a frangible membrane, a tear seal, and any combination of the two. Additionally, the fuel cell (or the power supply, generally) may be integral to the tubing (12) of the lineset or may be configured to fit within the fluid pump (30). This allows the activating member to be made integral to the fluid pump (30) such that the insertion of the fuel cell (32) into the pump (30) will defeat the barrier (54) and activate the fuel cell (32) to create power.

    • A method for manufacturing in which a fluent material (F) is dispensed to an article such as a container (10) from a flexible bag (16). The fluent material (F) is dispensed directly to the container (10) without any intervening structure which contacts the fluent material. Accordingly, the apparatus (12) can be constructed of less expensive materials and does not require frequent cleaning. The apparatus (12) acts on the bag (16) to dispense and does not act on the fluent material (F). Thus, the apparatus (12) has particular application where aseptic conditions need to be maintained such as in the packaging of the food and medicine. The flexible bag (16) is preferably formed with multiple outlets permitting simultaneous dispensing to multiple containers (10).
