摘要： A method of monitoring water safety of one or more persons in a body of water having a water surface is disclosed. The method includes monitoring each person within the water on an ongoing basis by repeatedly sensing for thermal IR (infrared radiation) emitted by a part of a person that is above the surface of the water within a detection zone. Conveniently producing thermal information on the IR emitted by each object within the detection zone includes producing a thermal image or thermogram showing the intensity of the IR emission of different objects in the detection zone by means of different colours. This unique thermal signature of human beings enables this technology to identify each person within the detection zone and their position within the detection zone. The method includes registering a danger signal when the person has been submerged beneath the water surface for the predetermined period of time. The method further includes an alarm that is set off in response to a danger signal being relayed. A system for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

摘要： Systems, methods, and apparatuses can determine and use methylation profiles of various tissues and samples. Examples are provided. A methylation profile can be deduced for fetal/tumor tissue based on a comparison of plasma methylation (or other sample with cell-free DNA) to a methylation profile of the mother/patient. A methylation profile can be determined for fetal/tumor tissue using tissue-specific alleles to identify DNA from the fetus/tumor when the sample has a mixture of DNA. A methylation profile can be used to determine copy number variations in genome of a fetus/tumor. Methylation markers for a fetus have been identified via various techniques. The methylation profile can be determined by determining a size parameter of a size distribution of DNA fragments, where reference values for the size parameter can be used to determine methylation levels. Additionally, a methylation level can be used to determine a level of cancer.

摘要： A frequency of somatic mutations in a biological sample (e.g., plasma or serum) of a subject undergoing screening or monitoring for cancer, can be compared with that in the constitutional DNA of the same subject. A parameter can derived from these frequencies and used to determine a classification of a level of cancer. False positives can be filtered out by requiring any variant locus to have at least a specified number of variant sequence reads (tags), thereby providing a more accurate parameter. The relative frequencies for different variant loci can be analyzed to determine a level of heterogeneity of tumors in a patient.

摘要： A hybrid geothermal power system is discussed. The system includes a geothermal system including power plant (101) and pumping station (102) and a nuclear plant (103). Pumping station (102) is used to inject fluid from reservoir (104) through an injection well (105) into the bedrock (106) (also referred to as the hot dry rock HDR zone) and extracted via a secondary bore (extraction well) usually coupled to the power plant (101). In the present example however the injection well is linked to the extraction well (107). As fluid is injected into the bedrock a drop in temperature occurs due to heat transfer to the fluid. Nuclear plant (103) is utilised to combat this drop, the plant (103) has the fissionable components (109 1 , 109 2 , 109 3 ) of the reactor positioned within bores (108 1 , 108 2 , 108 3 ) within the HDR zone.
