    • A differential positive coefficient weighted quadrature modulator is actuated responsive to quadrature clock signals and positive digital modulation signals input to the modulator. The modulator includes an l-channel positive coefficient weighted modulator (PCWM) and a Q-channel PCWM. The l-channel PCWM has differential output nodes configured to output a differential l-channel signal responsive to the state of first and second positive digital modulation signals and first and second complimentary quadrature clock signals input to the l-channel PCWM. The Q-channel PCWM has differential output nodes configured to output a differential Q-channel signal responsive to the state of third and fourth positive digital modulation signals and third and fourth complimentary quadrature clock signals input to the Q-channel PCWM. The positive digital modulation signals input to the l-channel and Q-channel PCWMs have positive amplitude and the l-channel and Q-channel PCWMs conduct at approximately half clock cycle or less of the corresponding quadrature clock signals.

    • A receiver receives information from a physical broadcast channel signal, wherein the receiver includes a blind processing and decoding unit that utilizes a hypothesis about how many transmit antennas were used to transmit the signal. Received signal characteristics are detected that indicate how many transmit antennas were used. Each transmit antenna hypothesis in a stored list represents how many transmit antennas were used. For each of the stored hypotheses, a probability value is determined based, at least in part, on the detected signal characteristics. The list of hypotheses is modified to associate the probability values with respective ones of the transmit antenna hypotheses. The modified list is used to provide antenna hypothesis probabilities, and the blind processing and decoding unit is operated such it begins with a most probable antenna hypothesis and continues with increasingly less probable antenna hypotheses until successful decoding occurs or all antenna hypotheses have been made.

    • A method for an electronic receiver of processing a packet of a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) system is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a first transmission of the packet, wherein the first transmission comprises a first plurality of soft symbol values and determining whether the first plurality of soft symbol values meets a stop criterion. If it is determined that the first plurality of soft symbol values does not meet the stop criterion, a subset of the first plurality of soft symbol values is determined, wherein the subset comprises a number of soft symbol values of the first plurality of soft symbol values, the number being greater than zero and less than the first plurality. The subset of the first plurality of soft symbol values is stored in a HARQ buffer. A second plurality of soft symbol values, comprised in a second transmission of the packet received by the electronic receiver, is combined with the stored subset of the first plurality of soft symbol values to produce a third plurality of combined soft symbol values.     • According to the teachings disclosed in this document, a receiver estimates impairment correlations for a received signal using received pilot values. This direct estimation of impairment correlations based on direct pilot observations, provides for a rich capture of all impairment sources bearing on the received signal. Advantageously, however, estimation noise is reduced by generating a structured covariance matrix (106)- from the measured covariance matrix (102), and carrying out structured filtering within the structured covariance matrix (108). Structured filtering involves averaging matrix elements that correspond to the same processing delay difference as used for measured impairment correlation estimation. In one or more embodiments, averaged net channel estimates are used to obtain a rank one matrix (104), which is used to convert a measured covariance matrix to a structured covariance matrix, for carrying out structured filtering.

    • A method and apparatus for configuring a variable filter in an OFDM transmitter based on the number of subcarrier frequencies selected for the input data block is described herein. An exemplary OFDM transmitter comprises a control unit, OFDM modulator, and variable filter. The control unit selects the number of subcarriers for the input data block, and configures one or more filter properties for the variable filter based on the selected number of subcarriers. The modulator, which has a size greater than the selected number of subcarriers, pads an input data block generated for the selected number of subcarriers to generate an expanded data block having a size equal to the size of the modulator, and modulates the expanded data block to generate an OFDM signal. The filter, as configured by the control unit, filters the OFDM signal.
