摘要： Apparatus and method for adjustably restricting a selected body lumen such as an anal canal of a patient to passively treat fecal incontinence. The apparatus in various examples comprises a plurality of expandable elements. Each of the elements is comprised of a membrane of biocompatible material enclosing a volume. The elements expand upon introduction of fluid into the elements and contract upon withdrawal of fluid from the elements. The expandable elements are adjustable in size by adjusting an amount of fluid in the elements. Fluid communication to the expandable elements is provided by a plurality of flexible conduits of biocompatible material coupled to both the expandable elements and a fill port block comprising a plurality of fill ports.

摘要： An implantable device includes a conduit, an adjustable membrane element coupled to the conduit near the front end of the conduit for controllable coaptation of a body lumen, such as coaptation of a urethra as treatment for urinary incontinence, and a helix coupled to the front end of the conduit. The helix functions as a fixation mechanism to anchor the implantable device to the tissue. The implantable device can be inserted into tissue using a sheath and can be rotated with the sheath by partially inflating the adjustable membrane element placed in a front end portion of the sheath, and the helix can be turned into the tissue by rotating the sheath.

摘要： An implantable device (1310) includes a conduit (1314), an adjustable membrane element (1312) coupled to the conduit near the front end of the conduit for controllable coaptation of a body lumen, such as coaptation of a urethra as treatment for urinary incontinence, and a fixation mechanism (1350) at or near the front end of the conduit. The fixation mechanism is configured to anchor the implantable device to the tissue using a movement of a push wire (1324). Optionally, the fixation mechanism can also allow the implantable device to be released from the tissue using another movement of the push wire, to allow for repositioning or removal of the implantable device.

摘要： The present application includes a system for the preparation of a patient for the implantation of post-operatively adjustable coaptation device. For example, the present subject matter includes a tool having a proximal portion and a distal portion, and an elongate section disposed between the proximal portion and the distal portion. The tool additionally includes jaws hinged at a first joint, the first joint located at the distal portion of the tool, the jaws adapted to vary between an open state and a closed state, the closed state defining a blunt tip. Also, the tool includes a handle located at the proximal portion of the tool. The handle and the jaws are connected so that motion of the handle moves the jaws from the closed state to the open state.

摘要： An implantable medical device and method for adjustably restricting a selected body lumen such as a urethra or ureter of a patient to treat urinary incontinence or ureteral reflux. The device includes an adjustable, self-sealing element having a continuous wall, including an inner surface defining a chamber. The adjustable element expands or contracts due to fluid volume introduced in the chamber for restricting a body lumen. After being implanted into a patient, the size of the adjustable element is altered by first locating the adjustable element implanted adjacent the body lumen, and then establishing fluid communication with the adjustable element. The volume of the adjustable element is then adjusted by either introducing or removing volume from the chamber of the adjustable element.
