A catalyst system for polymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an alpha-olefinic comonomer comprising from 3 to 10 carbon atoms to produce high density polyethylene, the catalyst system comprising in combination a chromium-based catalyst comprising chromium oxide on a silica-containing support and an alkyl metal oxane with which the chromium-based catalyst has been precontacted whereby the atomic ratio of the metal of the oxane to the chromium is less than 1. A process for producing high density polyethylene having a bimodal molecular weight distribution, the process comprising polymerising ethylene or copolymerising ethylene and an alpha-olefinic comonomer comprising from 3 to 10 carbon atoms in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a chromium-based catalyst, comprising chromium oxide on a silica-containing support, and an alkyl metal oxane in an amount of around 0.45 wt.% based on the weight of the chromium-based catalyst.

    • Metallocene catalysts useful for the preparation of syndiotactic/atactic block polyolefins have the general formula: R"(C4R'mC5C4R'n) XMeQ wherein X is a hetero-atom ligand with one or two lone pair electrons selected from the elements of Group VA or VIA which can be substituted or non-substituted; (C4Rm'C5C4R'n') is a fluorenyl or a symmetrically substituted fluorenyl or cyclopentadienyl ring; R' is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl radical having from 1-20 carbon atoms, a halogen, an alkoxy, and alkoxy alkyl or an alkylamino or alkylsilylo radical, each R' may be the same or different and m and n independently are 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, with the proviso that the bilateraly symmetry is maintained; R" is a structural bridge between X and the (C4R'mC5C4R'n) ring to impart stereorigidity; Q is a hydrocarbyl radical having 1-20 carbon atoms or is a halogen; Me is a Group IIIB, IVB, VB, or VIB metal as positioned in the Periodic Table of Elements; and Me can be in any of its theoretically possible oxidation states. Olefin monomers (particularly propylene) polymerised using those catalysts to form syndiotactic/atactic block polymers of high molecular weight and comprising at least 70 % of syndiotactic triads.

    • Process for reducing the wax content of wax-containing hydrocarbon feedstocks to produce middle distillate products including low freeze point jet fuel and/or low pour point and low cloud point diesel fuel and heating oil. The process comprises contacting the feedstock with a hydrocracking catalyst containing a carrier, at least one hydrogenation metal component selected from Group VIB and Group VIII metals, and a large pore zeolite, e.g., a Y type zeolite, in a hydrocracking zone in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure, and contacting the entire effluent from the hydrocracking zone with a dewaxing catalyst containing a crystalline, intermediate pore size molecular sieve selected from metallosilicates, e.g., borosilicates, ironsilicates, and aluminosilicates, and silicoaluminophosphates, e.g., SAPO-11, in a hydrodewaxing zone in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure.
