    • An arc tube of a metal vapor discharge lamp, free from change in color characteristics at the initial stage and from color variation and having good color characteristics as a high color rendering type with no degradation of luminous flux due to blackening of the arc tube. The arc tube comprises a ceramic discharge enclosure, thin tube protrusions disposed on both ends of the discharge enclosure, and an electrode system secured to hollow portions of the protrusions. The electrode system includes a tungsten electrode rod having an electrode coil at its end, a halogen-resistant pipe fitted to a portion excepting the electrode coil of the electrode core and its vicinity, and a current lead having a tubular metal conductor jointed to the halogen-resistant pipe and one end of the electrode rod and an external lead arranged therein.

    • The invention relates to a flat light emitter with dielectrically impeded strip-like cathodes (12; 15) and anodes (8; 9a) which are alternately arranged on the wall of the discharge vessel (14). The inventive device has an additional anode (9b) between each adjacent cathode (12; 12, 15), i.e. a pair of anodes (9) is respectively arranged between said cathodes (12; 12, 15). The cathodes (15) have nose-shaped extensions (28) facing each adjacent anode (8). Said extensions are more densely arranged as they advance towards the edges (26, 27) of the light emitter (13). Alternately or additionally, both anode strips (9a; 9b) of each anode pair (9) are wider on one side in the direction of each partner strip (9b or 9b) as they advance towards the edges (26, 27) of the light emitter (13). Such a design enables the surface luminance of the flat light emitter (13) to remain substantially constant even at the edges (26, 27, 29, 30).
