    • A cable lasher (20) is provided for securing a telephone or transmission cable to a support strand in the air between adjacent utility poles to prevent sagging of the transmission cable. As the cable lasher traverses a span of the support strand, the lasher pays out a line of lashing wire that is helically wrapped around the cable and the strand to bind them together. A series of tensioning rollers (34, 36) maintains constant tension in the lashing wire at all times to ensure a tight uniform wind. A gearbox (46) translates linear motion of the lasher along the guide wire into rotational motion of a drum portion (28) of the lasher. The rotation of the drum (28) causes the wrapping of the lasher wire about the cable and the strand.

    • The cable support block has an arcuate frame having two spaced-apart legs defining an opening therebetween with an elongated coil spring bridging the opening in its unstressed, closed position, the coil spring being attached at its first end to a single one of the frame legs. The upper portion of the frame defines a yoke allowing the support block to rest on an upper cable spacedly supported over ground. The lower portion of the frame rotatably carries an idle roller on which a lower cable being installed or stringed can rest. To insert a cable into the arcuate frame, the cable is forcibly abutted against the coil spring which will resiliently yield to allow access into the arcuate frame by being inwardly deformed. A shoulder is located on the frame leg opposite the one where the coil spring is attached. The shoulder prevents accidental release of the cables trapped inside the arcuate frame by preventing outward displacement of the coil spring second end portion. The coil spring second end portion may alternately be resiliently moved around the shoulder, to allow outward deformation of the coil spring, so that the cables located inside the arcuate frame may be retrieved from therein. The support block is especially useful in combination with a telescopic pole, which allows distal handling of the support block from ground level for installation and removal thereof.
