    • A gravity actuated lock (10) includes: (a) a housing (12); (b) a latch retainer (14) that is movable between a first position and second position, and that is biased towards the first position; (c) a track (24); (d) an element (16) freely movable along the track (24) under the influence of gravity between: (i) a distal position, in which the element (16) is spaced from the latch retainer (14); and (ii) a proximal position, in which the element (16) is in contact with the latch retainer (14), (e) a latch member (18) that is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position, and that is biased towards the unlocked position, wherein the latch member (18): (i) may be captured by the latch retainer (14) when the latch member (18) is in the locked position and the latch retainer (14) is in the first position; and (ii) is released from the latch retainer (14) when the latch retainer (14) is in the second position, thereby permitting the latch member (18) to move from the locked position to the unlocked position; (f) a bolt (20); and (g) a receptacle (22) for at least partially receiving the bolt (20) therein. As the bolt (20) is received within the receptacle (22), the latch member (18) is caused to move from the unlocked position towards the locked position and become captured by the latch retainer (14), thereby securing the bolt within the receptacle (22). Whereas, as the lock (10) is inverted, the element (16) moves from the distal position to the proximal position, causing the latch retainer (14) to move towards the second position, and permitting the latch member (18) to move from the locked position towards the unlocked position, thereby permitting the bolt (20) to be released from the receptacle (22).

    • A lock comprises a male element, and a female element for receiving the male element enabling aligned copular engagement. The male element has a shoulder and the female element a catch for closing behind the shoulder to hold the male element therein. The catch and a lock casing are held in the female element with the axis of the lock casing inclined, normally at a right angle, to the line of engagement of the male and female elements. The lock casing and the female element have juxtaposed faces inclined to the line of engagement of the male and female elements. At least one face on the lock casing extends from the casing outwardly from the line of engagement contiguous with an inwardly facing complementary face on the female element. In this way longitudinal forces generated by attempted separation of the engaged male and female elements are resolved by said faces into a lateral force on the female element.

    • A ball display case has base and a cover that is securable to the base. When the cover is secured to the base, the cover and base at least partially enclose a space for holding a ball. The case has a pedestal for supporting a ball in the enclosed space. The elevation of the pedestal relative to the base is optionally adjustable. An irreversible lock is adapted for selective application to at least one of the base and the cover such that the lock assumes a locking position that prevents non-destructive removal of the cover from the base. One suitable lock includes a plate having a plurality of recessed areas spaced radially about the plate and a plurality of posts extending away from the plate. Each post is in general radial alignment with one of the recessed areas of the plate and spaced radially inward from the recessed area.
