Abflusseinrichtung (5), wobei die Erfassungssignale der Detektiereinrichtung (6, 7) an eine interne oder externe Steuereinheit anlegbar sind, um an die ansteuerbaren Betätigungsorgane (10, 11) Stellsignale in Abhängigkeit von den Erfassungssignalen entsprechend einem vorgegebenen Programmablauf zu liefern. Das System ermöglicht die enterale Nähmittelzuführung zu einem Patienten mit genauer volumetrischer Dosierung. Es benötigt keine Förderpumpe.

    • An enteral feeding catheter (5) that provides access to both the stomach and the jejunum for feeding, aspiration and decompression. The catheter includes a dual lumen "D" tube (30) that joins to an external "Y" connector (25) at the proximal end of the tube. The connector serves both lumens as a source for fluid or aspiration. The gastric lumen (37) and the jejunal lumen (38) of the "D" tube both connect to a transitional connector bolus in the stomach. The gastric lumen of the "D" tube joins with a lumen in the transitional bolus that communicates with a gastric port (27). The gastric port is recessed to the level of its full internal lumen, thereby providing maximum protection against occlusion and maximum area for outflow. The "D" jejunal lumen connects in the bolus with a lumen that transitions from a "D" shape to a full circle shape. The latter provides for the attachment of a smaller, round, single lumen tube that extends into the jejunum. At the distal end of the jejunal tube is a bolus (11) containing an improved port that is also recessed to the level of the floor of the internal tube lumen to provide maximum protection against occlusion and maximum area for outflow. Both the gastric port in the transitional bolus and the jejunal port in the tip bolus may include a structural arch protruding radially outwardly therefrom. An arch is effective to prevent the body segment of either bolus from bending and restricting the ports. The invention also provides for the insertion of the tube over a guidewire (21) rather than with an internal stylet, as is normally the case with nasally inserted tubes.

    • The present invention is an improved stylet for enteric or nasoenteric feeding tubes. In broadest terms, the present invention comprises: a stylet for a feeding tube, the stylet having: (a) a stylet hub having a bore therethrough and adapted to be attached to one end of the feeding tube, the bore having an inner surface; (b) a longitudinally extending reinforcement member adapted to extend through the feeding tube, the reinforcement member having a proximal end; and (c) a hollow member having an outer surface and having an aperture, the hollow member disposed in the bore so as to hold the inlet end of the reinforcement member between the outer surface and the inner surface through an interference fit.

    • A method for dye-marking a liquid enteral nutritional product during delivery thereof from a supply container to a feeding tube delivering the nutritional product to the gastrointestinal tract of a patient includes the steps of: (1) providing apparatus such as a formulation chamber, e.g., a drip chamber, connectable to the supply container, with at least one sustained release reservoir containing a physiologically acceptable and dispersible marker dye positioned within the formulation chamber, and, liquid communication means connecting the formulation chamber to the feeding tube of a patient; (2) providing a supply container containing the nutritional product; (3) connecting the formulation chamber to the supply container and the liquid communication means to the feeding tube; and (4) flowing the dye-marked nutritional product through the apparatus and into the feeding tube. The sustained release reservoir may be a conventional slow release coated tablet, microspheres, or capsule type or an osmotically driven device. The marker dye may be a colorant dye or a fluorescing dye or a mixture thereof. If quick coloration is desired, the sustained release reservoir may be coated with a soluble layer of the marker dye or marker dye not in a sustained release reservoir may be placed in the formulation chamber along with a sustained release reservoir containing dye.
