    • An expandable pulley (100). The expandable pulley (100) comprises a plurality of belt blocks (10) arranged about an axis of rotation (A). Each belt block (10) bears upon a radial surface extending normally to the axis of rotation. Another surface of each belt block (10) bears upon a conical member (16) surface which is moveable coaxially with the axis of rotation. A spring (22) bears upon the conical member (16) which urges the conical member (16) in an axial direction, which in turn urges the belt blocks (10) radially outward to compensate for a belt length change and to maintain a belt tension. An elastic member (24) holds the belt blocks (10) in contact with the conical member (16).

    • The invention comprises a cam die. The cam die comprises at least one cam ring (20a, 20c). The cam ring comprises a plurality of moveable cam teeth. The cam teeth are moveable on a normal toward an axis of the cam die by a cam actuator (10). The cam actuator has an inside diameter that is less than an outside diameter of the cam ring. As the cam actuator moves parallel to the cam die axis along an outside circumference of the cam ring, the cam teeth are progressively engaged and pressed inwardly toward a work piece (p). The work piece is moved simultaneously with the cam actuator by action of a punch (60) that is concentric with the cam actuator and within the diameter of the cam ring. Each cam tooth is simultaneously engaged with the work piece as the work piece passes. A resilient member returns each cam tooth to a starting position after the cam actuator is withdrawn, allowing ejection of a finished part.

    • The invention comprises a tool (100) for installing a low modulus type power transmission belt on an engine pulley (p). More particularly on a pulley having two sets of grooves (b, c) whereby two power transmission belts are engaged with the pulley. The tool comprises a substantially semi-circular form having at least two surfaces (21, 31) engaged with a rim (A) and which project radially therefrom. Each of the two surfaces (21, 31) also describe a helical angle with respect to an axis of rotation of the pulley. The first surface (21) urges a belt into a first set of pulley grooves during a first tool rotation. The second surface (31) urges the belt from the first set of pulley grooves to a second adjacent set of pulley grooves during a second rotation of the tool.

    • The invention comprises a tensioning idler. An outer belt bearing ring is resiliently engaged to an inner ring. The belt bearing ring and inner ring each rotate about an axis of rotation. The belt bearing ring is connected to the inner ring with the resilient material whereby the belt bearing ring rotates about an axis of rotation that is eccentrically moveable in a plane with respect to an inner ring axis of rotation. The resilient material imparts a belt tension as the belt bearing ring rotates. The resilient material may comprise springs, compressible fluids, incompressible fluids, or elastomers or a combination of the foregoing. The tensioner is mounted on an engine, bracket, or other device.

    • A belt having a body (10), a tensile member (20) and an outer surface. The body comprises an elastomer. An outer surface of the belt having a profile, foe example teeth (15). A layer (30) of Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene thermoplastic (UHMWPE) is bonded to the profile surface. The layer bonded to the profile surface having a low softening point allowing it to conform to a mold shape prior to cure of the rubber body material. The layer having a molecular weight in the range of 3-7 million grams per mole. The layer causes the belt to exhibit superior abrasion resistance and flexibility while reducing the cost per belt as compared to fabric jacket belts. The UHMWPE jacket belt has significantly reduced dust and debris production during operation.
