The copolyester contains structural units derived from a polyester and structural units derived from diepoxy, and the polyester units at least essentially consist of hydroxy acid monomers. The bonds between the structural units are ester bonds and the number average molar mass, Mn, is at least 10,000 g/mol, its weight average molar mass, Mw, is over 20,000 g/mol and molar mass distribution, expressed as the ratio Mw/Mn, is over 2. The copolyester is hydrolytically degradable and it can be used as a biodegradable polymer for the manufacture of injection moulded articles as well as thermoformed and blow moulded packages, pouches, sacks and bottles, for the coating of sacks bags and films made from paper or cardboard and for the preparation of fibres, fibre cloths and expanded polymer articles.

    • The invention relates to alkene-substituted cyclic carboxylic acid anhydrides which are formed from the reaction product of a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride, preferably succinic acid anhydride, and an olefin blend. The olefin blend is made up of internal linear and branched olefins and linear and/or branched alpha -olefins, in which blend the olefins contain 13-25 carbon atoms, and the internal and alpha -olefins are present at a ratio of 5-95 % to 95-5 %. The invention also relates to methods for the preparation of these compounds from a carboxylic acid anhydride and the said olefin blend, which is prepared by oligomerizing a so-called Raffinate II stream containing 1-butene and 2-butene, by pyrolyzing a high molecular weight polyethylene, and by separating from the obtained product the olefin fraction which primarily contains 13-25 carbon atoms or by dehydrogenating a blend of suitable alcohols to the said olefin blend. The obtained alkene-substituted cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride can be used in particular for the preparation of an ASA sizing agent suitable for paper sizing; this sizing agent has been observed to have excellent efficacy in reducing permeability to water.

    • The present invention concerns polymer blends and processes for the preparation thereof. The present blends contain a) 5 to 95 parts by weight of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)ether, b) 95 to 5 parts by weight of a second polymer which is immiscible therewith, and c) a component (a compatibilizer) which enhances the compatibility of the polymers. According to the invention the component enhancing the compatibility of the polymers comprises 0.1 to 10 %, preferably about 1.5 to 10 %, calculated on basis of the total weight of components a and b, of at least one compound C, which has the formula (I): Ai-Bj wherein A stands for a group which contains at least one ring with 3 to 7 members, capable of forming ring-to-ring interactions with the phenyl rings of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)ether; B is a polar group; i is an integer 1 to 20; and j is an integer 0 to 20; whereat i + j is greater than or equal to 2; the melting point of compound C is above 50 DEG C and the boiling point thereof above 200 DEG C (at 760 mmHg) and c; compound C is capable of at least partially dissolving poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)ether. The polymer blends according to the invention are processible and their elasticity moduli are at least 10 % greater than those of blends which do not contain substance C, which has instead been replaced by the same amount of component b. The polymer blends can be used for the preparation of fibres, coatings and films.

    • The invention relates to an electrically conductive elastomer composition which comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a doped aniline polymer. A problem in the preparation of electrically conductive elastomer compositions is the lack of thermoplasticity of the electrically conductive component, making difficult the processing and the obtaining of a homogenous product. This problem has now been solved by having the doped aniline polymer be a substantially thermoplastic doped aniline polymer which is obtained by reacting with a functionalized protic acid a conjugated homo- or copolymer made up of at least unsubstituted and/or substituted aniline mers. The protic acid functionalizes the aniline polymer either on being heated together with the aniline polymer to a temperature of 80-250 DEG C or on being heated together with the aniline polymer and a solvent and on the solvent being evaporated. The elastomer composition is also composed of a plasticizer which plasticizes the doped aniline polymer and promotes its flow, preferably a metal compound with a plasticizing effect, such as a reaction product of zinc oxide and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid.
