    • A method and apparatus for filtering a slurry utilizing a displacement filtering principle. The filter apparatus (100) desirably includes a first filter (114) and a second filter (116). The first and second filters (114, 116) are preferably positioned adjacent one another. A particulate collection volume (122) is at least partially defined between the first and second filters (114, 116). The method includes directing a flow of slurry into the particulate collection volume (122) under sufficient pressure to force fluid within the particulate collection volume (122) through one of the first and second filters (114, 116) and any particulate matter blocking a filtering surface of the first and second filters. Preferably, a scraper (160) is movable from a first end to a second end of the particulate collection volume (122) to remove particulate matter therefrom at the end of a filter cycle.

    • The invention relates to a filter element (10) for purifying a fluid stream, especially fluids, whereby the filter element (10) does not collapse even when subjected to high pressures. To this end, the filter element (10) has a filter medium (12) comprised of two filter medium parts (11). The filter medium parts (11) are folded in a zigzagging manner and are joined in an annular manner. Each filter medium part (11) has an outer face (15) and an inner face (16). A filter delimiting part (17) is arranged on the outer face (15), and a disk (14) is arranged on the inner face (16). On the inner face (16), said disk (14) is joined to the filter medium part (11) in a tight manner whereby securely fixing the folds (13) in place.
