    • The present invention relates to a multimedia player providing a generic and easy to use mechanism for accurate task scheduling. Said multimedia player processes a encoded digital data stream (IS) in order to supply audio and video signals (SO, SC) to an audio-visual production system (LS, MON). The multimedia player in accordance with the invention comprises a demultiplexer (DEMUX) for splitting the encoded digital data stream into an audio stream (AS) and several video streams (VS1 to VSn). The multimedia player also performs the tasks of audio decoding and rendering (DR), to decode (ADEC) the audio stream, to filter the decoded audio frames (AF) provided by the decoding and to render (AREN) said audio frames; decoding (DEC) the video streams, to provide video objects whose decoded video frames (VF1 to VFn) are stored in video buffers (BUF1 to BUFn); and rendering (REN) the decoded video frames stored in the video buffers. Finally, the multimedia player comprises a scheduler for registering the three previous tasks, assigning a target time to said tasks, and controlling the execution of the tasks as a function of the target time.

A server provides a video file and an audio file, and a server manager manages the server so as to transmit a video file and an audio file at a user's request. An exchange converts the video file and the audio file provided from the server through a network to the corresponding video and audio signals. A mobile terminal receives the video and audio signals from the exchange through separate channels, and reads only the user requested data from the received video and audio signals. The mobile terminal comprises first and second tuners for separately receiving the video signal and the audio signal, respectively; a signal processor for detecting a video signal and an audio signal, selected by the user, from the video and audio signals received through the first and second tuners; first and second decoders for decoding the video and audio signals detected by the signal processor, respectively; a video display for outputting the decoded video signal; and an audio output device for outputting the decoded audio signal.

    • A synchronization module executes independently of a multimedia application and serves requests for timing data which the multimedia application uses to synchronize display of motion video and audio data of a multimedia display. The multimedia application disregards the motion video playback mechanism provided by the multimedia authoring tool by which the multimedia application is created and instead directly controls movement of individual objects of a motion video scene in accordance with time information received from the synchronization module. The timing data is relative to the beginning of playback of accompanying audio data such that audio and video of the multimedia display are synchronized regardless of the particular processing speed of the computer system within which the multimedia application executes.
