    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for estimating at least one crosstalk coefficient at a given carrier frequency (k) from at least one respective disturber line (Lm) towards a victim line (Ln) of a vectoring group. At least one crosstalk probing sequence (Smt (k) ) out of a set of orthogonal crosstalk probing sequences (131) is assigned to the at least one respective disturber line for modulation at the given carrier frequency of at least one respective sequence of crosstalk probing symbols, and error samples (Ent (k) ) as successively measured by a receiver (210n) coupled to the victim line at the given carrier frequency while the at least one sequence of crosstalk probing symbols are being transmitted over the at least one respective disturber line are fed back for crosstalk estimation. The receive d error samples are next correlated with at least one unassigned crosstalk probing sequence (Tmt (k) ) out of the set of orthogonal crosstalk probing sequences for detection of a demapping error in the received error samples. The at least one unassigned crosstalk probing sequence is not actively used by any line of the vectoring group during the transmission of the at least one sequence of crosstalk probing symbols over the at least one respective disturber line.

    • The present invention relates to a method for acquiring crosstalk coefficients from a plurality of disturber lines (L 1 ; L 2 ) into a victim line (L N ) in a wired multi-carrier communication system (1). In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the method comprises the steps of inserting a plurality of crosstalk probing signals (XTS 1 ; XTS 2 ) within the wired multi-carrier communication system for probing the crosstalk from respective ones of the plurality of disturber lines into the victim line, carrying out crosstalk measurements (SNIR n ) over the victim line, and estimating the crosstalk coefficients from the crosstalk measurements. The method further comprises the steps of organizing the plurality of disturber lines into subsets of disturber lines (SL 1 ; SL 2 ), and individually assigning disjoint groups of carriers (CG 1 ; CG 2 ) to the respective subsets of disturber lines. The insertion of the plurality of crosstalk probing signals is confined within the respectively assigned groups of carriers. The subsets of disturber lines and/or the groups of carriers used for a second or subsequent iteration are tailored based on crosstalk characteristics observed for the respective disturber lines during a previous iteration. The present invention also relates to a vectoring controller (130) for acquiring crosstalk coefficients from a plurality of disturber lines (L 1 ; L 2 ) into a victim line (L N ) in a wired multi-carrier communication system (1).
