    • A paintball marker or other compressed gas firearm is provided including a ram driven by an electropneumatic valve when a trigger is actuated to cause a main valve between a high pressure air supply and a firing chamber to be opened. This ram assembly is independent from the main valve structurally and coupled to the air supply and electropneumatic valve sufficiently flexibly to allow the ram assembly to be operable when the ram assembly is displaced away from the main valve. A bolt is provided for directing pressurized air from the main valve to the firing chamber when the main valve is opened, and with the bolt configured to provide a high pressure air pathway which has a high degree of effectiveness in driving the ball out of the firing chamber without distorting a trajectory of the ball. The bolt can be stationary when air is flowing past the bolt.

The handgrip structure is a structural element of the frame/handgrip assembly and defines outer grip surfaces presenting surface preparation for efficient gripping and defining a maximum handgrip thickness being substantially the same as the handgrip thicknes of a standard Model 1911 A1 handgun.     • An automatic pistol (10) for repetitively firing blank ammunition includes a frame (102), a barrel unit (118) including a barrel chamber portion and a barrel element extending from the barrel chamber portion, and a slide (106) mounted on the frame (102) and reciprocally longitudinally moveable relative to the frame (102) between a forward battery position where the pistol is capable of firing and a rearward position where a spent blank cartridge is ejected. The slide (106) is initially freely moveable relative to the barrel unit (118) to an engaging position of the slide (106) displaced from the forward battery position. At the engaging position, the slide (106) engages an abutment surface (120) of the barrel unit (118) thereby moving the barrel unit (118) to a position where the barrel chamber portion receives a blank cartridge. A mechanism, i.e., a restrictor element (124), may be provided for generating sufficient back pressure in the barrel unit (118) upon firing of a blank cartridge to move the slide (14) to the rearward position.
