At a concentration of substantially 1 mg/cm the compound has an occlusivity of at least 50 %, more preferably 65 %, and especially preferably 75 %. A preferred compound according to the invention is cerotyl linoleate. The invention includes compositions containing such compounds, the use of these compounds as skin emollients and a method of cosmetically treating dry, hard or cracked skin.
