    • A multilayer film comprises six layers in the layer arrangement 1/5/4/3/6/2. The first layer (1) serves as a heat sealing layer and comprises a homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer wherein the alpha-olefin has from 3 to 20 carbon atoms. The second layer (2) is a second outer layer and serves as an abuse layer. The third layer (3) is an O2-barrier layer and is between the first layer and the second layer. The fourth layer (4) is an inner layer comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyamide and polyester. The fourth layer is between the fifth layer and the sixth layer. The fifth layer (5) is an inner layer serving as a first tie layer, the fifth layer being between the first layer and the third layer. The sixth layer is an inner layer serving as a second tie layer, the sixth layer being between the second layer and the third layer. The invention also pertains to a packaging article, such as a bag, pouch, casing, etc., which is made from or comprises the multilayer film as well as a packaged product comprising a product (e.g., food) surrounded by a package comprising the multilayer film.

    • The present invention relates to a process for detecting a leak in a package. The process comprises preparing a package by covering at least a portion of an O 2 -sensitive product with a multilayer film comprising (i) a leak-indicator layer in which a O 2 - sensitive indicator is present throughout the leak-indicator layer; and (ii) an O 2 -barrier layer outward of the leak-indicator layer. A low O 2 -environment is provided within the package. The leak-indicator layer. A low O 2 -environment is provided within the package. The leak-indicator layer is then illuminated with light containing a wave-length absorbed by the O 2 -sensitive indicator, so that the O 2 -sensitive indicator produces an emission of radiation in an amount inversely proportional to a level of O 2 present with the O 2 -sensitive indicator. The then multilayer film is scanned while the O 2 -sensitive indicator is emitting radiation, the scanning being carried out by sensing and comparing the amount of radiation emitted from at least two different regions of the multilayer film.

    • A heat-sealed easy-open article has a film which is heat sealed to itself or another component of the article. The film has a heat seal layer containing a blend of a first polymer and a second polymer. The first polymer is a highly branched homogeneous polyolefin having at least 60 branches per 1000 methylene groups, and for every 100 branches that are methyl, about 4 to 20 ethyl branches, about 1 to 12 propyl branches, about 1-12 butyl branches, about 1 to 10 amyl branches, and about 1 to 20 hexyl or longer branches. The second polymer being present in an amount of at least 5 weight percent based on the weight of the blend. The second polymer having a glass transition temperature or melt temperature which is higher than the first polymer. The wherein the heat seal has a strength of from 5 to 75 percent of an ultimate seal strength formed by heat sealing to itself a corresponding film having a heat seal layer containing 100 percent of the second polymer.
