    • A gas flow enhancer for a combustion engine includes a housing, configured to receive an inlet flow of gas at an inlet pressure, and enclosing an expansion chamber. Disposed within the expansion chamber are a set of inner vanes and outer vanes, and a flow separator. The outer vanes are disposed outside the flow separator and produce an outer helical flow of the gas. The inner vanes are disposed within the flow separator and produce an inner helical flow of the gas, the inner helical flow having a higher velocity and lower pressure than the outer helical flow. The outer helical flow and inner helical flow are recombined at an outlet of the expansion chamber so as to produce an outlet laminar flow profile having a lower average pressure than the inlet pressure.

    • A single (110) or multi-stage (510) centrifugal pump or mixer duplex shear force rotor consisting of two non-parallel shrouds (17, 18). The driven shroud (18) contains a center opening (19). The rotor has an open, unobstructed entrance section (7) and includes a protrusion (22) designed to force-feed the discharge section in a smooth laminar flow pattern. The discharge section incorporates a series of raised ribs (1). The raised ribs (1) begin at the peripheral edge (28) of the shrouds (17, 18) and extend to approximately 50 % of the distance from the peripheral edge towards the center of the rotor (32). Cast-in place spacers (23) space the drive (17) and driven (18) shrouds. Alternatively, the rotor (710) can include no raised ribs. In addition, the raised ribs (812, 814) can have a cross-section that includes a tapered trailing edge to reduce wear. Alternatively, neither the drive (617) nor driven (618) shrouds are perpendicular to the axis of rotation (42).

    • A prandtl layer turbine has a longitudinally extending housing (14) having a fluid inlet port (60); a plurality of spaced apart members (12) rotatably mounted in the housing to transmit motive force between fluid introduced through the fluid inlet port and the members and to separate the fluid into at least two fluid streams; and, a fluid outlet port positioned on the housing for receiving each fluid stream. The prandtl layer turbine may be used in conjunction with a cyclone separator (94, 96) either to provide the motive force to draw a fluid through the cyclone separator or to both provide the motive force and to provide a second stage separation. The cyclone separator and turbine may be housed in a vacuum cleaner. A fan may be provided to assist in fluid flow through the turbine. Two turbines may be connected together whereby a first fluid is used to drive the first turbine and the first turbine is used to drive the second turbine which in turn provides motive force to a second fluid.

    • A boundary layer turbomachine can include a housing (10) defining an interior space and having an inlet opening and an outlet opening to facilitate movement of a fluid through the housing (10). The boundary layer turbomachine can also include a rotor assembly (20) disposed in the rotor chamber and configured to rotate about an axis of rotation (1). The rotor assembly (20) can have a plurality of disks (21) spaced apart along the axis of rotation (1) to provide gaps (54) between the disks (21). The plurality of disks (21) can also define an interior opening (26) along the axis of rotation (1). The rotor assembly (20) can have a disk carrier (46) disposed at least partially in the interior opening (26) in support of the plurality of disks (21). The disk carrier (46) can have a fluid passageway (47) exposed to two or more of the gaps (54) between the disks (21). The fluid can pass through gaps (54) between the disks (21) and the interior opening (26) as the fluid moves through the housing (10).
