摘要： A drawn aluminum can shell has a peripheral crown which is double-seamed with an end portion of an aluminum can body to provide a can end having a generally flat center panel connected by a curved panel wall to an inner wall of an annular U-shaped countersink. The countersink has a generally cylindrical outer wall and an inner width less than the radius of the panel wall. The outer wall of the countersink connects with a lower wall portion of a frustoconical chuckwall at a junction below the center panel, and an upper wall portion of the chuckwall extends to an inner wall of the crown at an angle of at least 16 DEG with the center axis. In one embodiment, the chuckwall has an intermediate generally vertical short riser portion connecting the wall portions, and the inner bottom width of the countersink is less than .040 inch.

摘要： A method and apparatus for seaming a can end to a can body and a can made thereby. The can end has a side wall forming an angle in the range of about 12 DEG to 15 DEG . A seaming chuck (42) is inserted into the can end adjacent its side wall. The seaming chuck (42) has upper and lower walls. The upper wall is essentially cylindrical or slightly negatively tapered. The lower wall is disposed at an angle very close to that of the can end side wall so that the upper and lower chuck side walls form an obtuse angle in the range of about 162 DEG to 168 DEG . A can seamed using such a chuck will have a segmented, kinked side wall comprising upper and lower substantially straight sections intersecting at a circumferentially extending crease and forming an obtuse angle.

The flange radius l1 is between 0.75 mm and 1.15 mm, and the flange fibre length (l1 + l2 + l3) to a position 1.4 mm below the top of the can body is between 3.22 mm and 4 mm. The axial load applied between the can end and the can body is less than that associated with conventional can bodies, and typically less than 600 N.
