    • A volt-second balanced, power factor correction (112)(PFC), pulse-width modulation (PWM) two-stage power converter (100). A first PFC stage receives an AC input signal (102) and forms a regulated intermediate output voltage (VFB). A second stage receives the intermediate output voltage (VFB) and forms a regulated DC output voltage (VDC). A level of the intermediate output voltage is monitored and used to adjust the duty cycle of a main power switch (SW1) in the PWM stage. By adjusting the PWM duty cycle based on the level of the intermediate output voltage (VFB), rather than the DC output voltage (VDC), the PWM converter (100) is volt-second balanced further, when a controller (110) for the power converter (100) is implemented as an integrated circuit, a pin is not required for monitoring the regulated DC output (VDC). Accordingly, the number of pins is minimized.

    • When antiductors are controlled by phase-angle control of semiconductor valves (4A, 4B and 4C), care must be taken in the case of large firing angles to ensure that two phases (A, B, C) are always fired at least approximately at the same time in function of the phase sequence of the three-phase current. A device for controlling antiductors comprises a control device (14) for generating primary firing signals (ZA, ZB, ZC) independently of each other over time, associated with a read-only memory (16) which generates secondary firing signals (ZZA, ZZB, ZZC) from the primary signals (ZA, ZB, ZC). The use of a read-only memory (16) permits virtually simultaneous firing of two phases and flexible adaptation to different modes of operation of the device.
