    • This invention aims at improving a method of carrying out communication between a transmission unit and a reception unit in a pulse rate meter and providing a pulse rate meter not influenced by noise. To achieve these objects, the present invention provides a pulse rate meter comprising a transmission unit provided with a detecting circuit for detecting an electrocardiographic signal obtained from a pair of electrodes fixed to the portion of a human body which is in the vicinity of the heart (2), and generating a detected signal (3), an interval data preparation circuit for counting the generation interval of the detected signals by a signal of a predetermined cycle and generating interval data (4), a serial data preparation circuit for converting the interval date into a serial signal and generating serial data signal (5), a transmission circuit for modulating the serial data signal and transmit the resultant signal as a ratio signal (6), and a battery as a power source (7), and a reception unit provided with a reception circuit for receiving the radio signal from the transmission unit, demodulating the resultant signal and generating a reception signal (8), a data decoding circuit for decoding the reception signal and generating electrocardiographic interval data (9), an operation circuit for calculating a heart rate on the basis of the electrocardiographic interval data, and a display for indicating a heart rate thereon. According to the present invention, even when the reception circuit receives noise or a signal having no relation with a heart rate, which does not constitute correct data in this case, it cannot be decoded correctly by the decoding circuit, and the data received normally in the preceding time are displayed. Therefore, erroneous heart rates are not displayed.

    • A first electrode (2), a display electrode (5) and a second electrode (4) connected to the display electrode (5) are disposed on a first substrate, and a nonlinear resistor (14) is disposed in a region where the first and second electrodes overlap. On the other hand, a black matrix (7) and an opposed electrode (9) are disposed on a second substrate (6), and a liquid crystal is sealed between the first and second substrates. In a liquid crystal display device having such a construction, the black matrix (7) has an open portion to be displayed in a display pixel portion and a shading portion disposed in a non-display portion for preventing leaking light, and an open portion (24) is disposed in a region of the opposed electrode (9) opposing the nonlinear resistor (14). Accordingly, light incident from a light source (16) is reflected by the black matrix (7), efficiently irradiates the nonlinear resistor, suppresses asymmetric characteristic changes due to the polarity of the nonlinear resistor, reduces a D.C. voltage applied to the liquid crystal, and prevents the drop of constrast and image seizure as flicker and after-image.

    • Upper electrodes (10, 11) and a lower electrode (2) are so provided as to be at right angles to each other on a base board (1) of a liquid crystal display, and two non-linear resistance elements (13, 14) are formed by the upper electrodes, an insulating film and the lower electrode. Either of the upper electrodes is connected to a signal electrode (9), the other connected to a display electrode (12) which constitutes a display image element. A connection portion (4) by which an anodic oxidation electrode (3) and the lower electrode (2) are connected together is partly cut off and so the lower electrode is insular. The display electrode (12) has an overlapping portion (15), where a two-layer film comprising the metal film of the joint portion (4) and the insulating film is left, under the display electrode (12). Owing to this arrangement, the asymmetric current-voltage characteristic due to the voltage applied to the signal electrode (a) is turned symmetric, and the DC component of the voltage applied to a liquid crystal layer is decreased. A decrease in the quality of the liquid crystal, a decrease in the contrast, and the occurrence of an image sticking phenomenon which are a flickering phenomenon and an after-image phenomenon are prevented.

When a center binding metal (1) is in joined condition, a connection shaft (23a) of a connection rod (23) at an end of the ornament is interposed between the front plate and the center binding metal body locked with each other. When the both push buttons are depressed, the engaging portions of the push buttons are disengaged from the engaging pin on the front plate to release the front plate whereby the connection rod can be disengaged from the center binding metal body.

    • An electronic timepiece in which a stepping motor is controlled by pulse width modulation, using a power source comprising a solar cell and an electric double-layer capacitor, whose output voltage may fluctuate. The stepping motor is driven by pulses from a plurality of pulse generators, each producing pulses of a different width. The fluctuating output from the power source is detected, and depending on the output voltage, one out of the generators is selected to minimize the current of pulses that flows to drive the stepping motor. Accordingly, the stepping motor is always driven with the minimum necessary current, resulting in efficient use of the power source.
