    • Apparatus for cutting an industrial-size roll of paper or other sheet material into two or more rolls. The apparatus includes a circular saw with a radius large enough to cut through such a roll in a single cut, leaving press-ready rolls that require no finish-trimming on the ends. The saw blade is mounted in a saw frame that travels along a carriage and positions the blade at any desired cutting position on the roll. The apparatus includes a support bed and load-bearing arms for supporting the weight of a large roll and keeping it in position during the cutting operation. Load/unload tables and a system of kicking cylinders guide the roll onto and off of the support bed. The saw frame is a tower that positions the saw blade above the roll at the desired cutting position, or a floor frame that positions the saw along side or beneath the roll at the desired cutting position. The apparatus further includes a finishing station for sanding the ends of cut rolls.

    • The inventive method is carried out by means of a software-controlled machine tool (1) and a tool whose surface (6) is provided with cutting grains projected from a binding material of the same height. The inventive method makes it possible to polish simultaneously one article and a group of articles. During polishing, multipass reversible displacements are discretely performed with a pitch practically equal to the required micro-roughness heights of the worked surface. The inventive device comprises an operation control system (34), a computer and a multi-channel micro-interpolator (41), the outputs thereof being connected to the inputs of drives (12, 13, 14) used for moving a table (9) provided with a workholder (10) for fixing worked articles (11) in accordance with the machine tool's (1) coordinates X, Y and Z. Each drive is provided with a totalizing mechanism which comprises a planetary-pin reducing gear with a cycloid drive.

    • An abrasive machine (10) comprises a rotatably driven tool (35), chucking equipment (27) for holding the work piece and feeding means (20, 21) for effecting relative displacement between the work piece (28) and the rotatably driven tool (35). The machine (10) further comprises: a tubular cylindrical housing (13); a shaft (17) provided with a recess; a rotatable outer casing (15) peripherally enclosing the housing (13); a lid member (30) connected to the casing (15), and extending radially over a first end of said tubular cylindrical housing (13) such that an inner surface (33) of said lid member faces said first end of said housing, wherein said rotatably driven tool (35) comprises abrasive material carried on said inner surface (33) of said lid member (30), and in that said shaft (17) is arranged such that when said shaft executes an angular displacement, said work piece (28) held by said chucking equipment (27) is caused to approach and contact said abrasive material.
