    • The present invention relates to a system for distributing electric power to an electrical grid (106). The system comprises a DC/AC inverter (102) arranged to convert a DC voltage output from an electric power generator (101) to an AC voltage, a transformer (103) arranged to receive said AC voltage, transform said AC voltage and deliver the transformed AC voltage to the grid (106), and a connector (104) arranged to selectively connect and disconnect the transformer (103) from the grid (106). The DC/AC inverter (102) is arranged to control primary winding magnetizing current delivered to the transformer (103). Further, the connector (104) is arranged to selectively connect and disconnect the grid (106) to and from the transformer (103) on the basis of the controlled magnetizing current.

    • Apparatus, devices, and methods for providing a voltage reduction capability in a welding power source (10) for safety purposes. The resistive load and the output voltage of the welding power source output are monitored and compared to predefined or preselected threshold values to generate a load condition signal and an output voltage condition signal (e.g., logic signals). The load condition signal and the output voltage condition signal serve as inputs to a voltage reduction device control logic (370) which generates control signals (372) to enable and disable the input and output of the welding power source according to the defined control logic. As a result, an extra measure of safety in preventing electrical shock is provided to users of the welding power source during hazardous operating conditions.

    • A system and method are provided for managing electrical power usage. During a predetermined time period, such as during blackout conditions, a digital signal processor (DSP) controls an IGBT/FET-based device to supply an allocated amount of power. When the consumed amount of power exceeds the allocated amount, the DSP shuts off the power. Alternatively, the system provides a signal to reduce the consumed power. If sufficient load has not been reduced after a predetermined amount of time, the power is shut off. Further alternatively or in addition, the DSP may shut off power to predetermined electrical outlets, while providing power to other electrical outlets, to reduce the power usage to the predetermined amount. During other time periods, the DSP controls the IGBT/FET device to provide a predetermined voltage that is less than the AC incoming line voltage. When the voltage drops below the predetermined voltage, such as during brownout conditions, a microprocessor controls an electronic switch on the primary windings side of a transformer system to provide a boosted output voltage.
