According to various aspects, a node, such as an access point or an access terminal, may determine a number of channels over which it will transmit a communication signal. The node may then select channels based on whether the channels are available or unavailable, wherein available channels are preferentially selected over unavailable channels. The node may then transmit a signal over the at least one of the selected channels.

摘要： A system and method are provided for distributing wireless network access parameters in a multi-mode communications user terminal (UT). The method includes: establishing a link between a UT and a first communications network (i.e., a cellular network); accessing a parameters server via the first network; downloading access parameters for a wireless, second communications network (i.e., a Wireless Local Area Network); and, using the downloaded access parameters to establish a wireless link between the UT and the second communications network. The downloaded access parameters may include information such as a security key, Service Set IDentifier (SSID), traffic channel allocation, and optimization parameters including transmit power, quality of service (QoS) settings, and operational mode. Alternately, the database may cross-reference UT ID to parameters such as QoS, IP address, gateway information, subnet mask, Domain Name Server (DNS) information, or geographical location.

The system includes a first wireless device having a first address and content, and a second wireless device. The first wireless device transmits a message including the first address over a first service. The second wireless device receives the message from the first wireless device and establishes a communication path to the first address over a second service to receive the content from the first wireless device. A method embodiment includes transmitting a message from a first wireless device to a second wireless device over a first service, wherein the message includes a first address. An 802.11 network is used as long as the voice quality is likely to be acceptable. Voice quality is measured and maintained to be at an acceptable level. 摘要： In an embodiment, a client device (CD) maintains a contact profile for a user of the CD, the contact profile including a universal identifier (UID) for the user and a list of devices and addresses at which the user of the CD can be contacted. The CD establishes a communication session with a remote CD (RCD) via a given contact address from the set of contact addresses for the RCD. The CD shares, in response to the communication session establishment, at least a portion of the contact profile to the RCD. The RCD generates and/or updates a given contact profile for the user of the CD that is maintained on the RCD based on the shared contact profile. The RCD can also share its profile with the CD in response to the communication session establishment, causing the CD to generate and/or update a contact profile for the RCD.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and system for contacting a local computer (125A, 125B, 125C) on a private network (130) over a public network (110) using a specialized domain name server (115). In one embodiment, a remote computer (105A, 105B, 105C) initiates a request to communicate with a local computer (125A, 125B, 125C) on a private network (130) using a domain name assigned to the local computer. Upon receiving the request to communicate (305), a specialized domain name server (120) generates a subsequent request for the local computer to communicate with the specialized domain name server (310). Next, a network address translator (120) generates a public network address for contacting the local computer and transmits the public network address (320) to the specialized domain name server (115). The specialized domain name server (120) then communicates the public network address (325, 330) to the remote computer (105A, 105B, 105C) which is then able to contact the local computer (125A, 125B, 125C) using the public network address.
