    • A one trip whipstock system includes both a combination mill and associated whipstock. The one trip combination mill comprises an upper cutter and lower cutter. The cutters are joined by a cone that widens towards the upper cutter. A whipstock is connected to the drilling sub by shear bolts. A guide lug on the whipstock faces the drilling sub between the lower cutter and upper cutter for riding on the cone when the drilling sub is advanced along the whipstock. Preferably the shear bolts connect to the lower cutter. The lower cutter has smaller gauge than the upper cutter, to such an extent that the relative gauge sizes of cutters permit the upper cutter to exit casing during drilling before the lower cutter. A watermelon mill and a string mill above the upper cutter may be provided. To reduce outer diameter wear on the upper cutter, it has a square leading edge.

    • This invention relates to a whipstock casing milling system and, more particularly, to such a system in which a window mill is secured to a whipstock so that the system may be run into a well, set and operated to open a window in a casing during a single trip. The milling system of the present invention comprises a protrusion (B) provided on the whipface of the whipstock wherein the protrusion (B) forms an extension of a relatively steep ramp surface (45) of the whipface so as to reduce damage to said surface (45) at a juncture (A) of said surface (45) with a relatively shallow ramp surface or parallel surface (46) during use of the system. The protrusion (B) thereby avoids an undercutting of a casing and a thinning of the whipstock.

    • The present invention provides a downhole cutting tool (20) for cutting materials at a worksite in a wellbore (22). The cutting tool includes a cutting end (32) that is adapted to discharge a high pressure fluid therefrom. A power unit (34) in the tool includes a plurality of serially arranged pressure stages, wherein each such stage increases the fluid pressure above its preceding stage. The high pressure fluid is discharged through the cutting end as a jet stream. A pulsar (35) in the tool is provided to pulse the fluid before it is discharged through the cutting end. A control unit (36) controls the position and orientation of the cutting end relative to the material. The downhole cutting tool can be programmed to cut materials according to predetermined patterns. The cutting tool may be utilized to cut support members of offshore structures, either from the inside or the outside of such support members. In a preferred method, the cutting tool is utilized to remove the earthen material from around the embedded support members and then to cut the support members below the sea bed. The cutting tool may be utilized in cutting nested pipes after pulling a selected length of such nested pipes from the wellbore.
