    • The invention relates to a method and a device for treating hospital waste, in particular for the mechanical disinfection of hospital waste from groups A, B and C given in the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute, of the German Association of Hospitals for hospital hygiene, and of the European Standards (EN 285), whereby the waste is placed in a pressurized container and air is removed from the waste by means of a software-controlled vacuum pump in repeated sequences. Once the following vacuum values have been attained: 1) 40-80 mbar; 2) 80-150 mbar; 3) 80-150 mbar, saturated vapour is added in each case to the pressurized container in respective quantities of 1100 mbar by a vapour generator. After the last vacuum process at the vacuum value of 150 mbar, saturated vapour is again added over an acting period of between 20 and 45 minutes to obtain a vapour pressure that is set in accordance with a selected temperature. The disinfected waste is discharged using a surface valve mounted underneath the pressurized container and reduced in a shredder.

    • The invention concerns homogeneous at least partial sterilisation or homogeneous complete pasteurisation of a substrate. In a first step of the method, the substrate is loaded via a loading area of a sealed hollow vessel at a first end of the vessel. A fluid for moistening said substrate may be introduced into the vessel, the vessel being further provided with means for at least partly sterilising or pasteurising the moistened substrate. In a second step, the substrate is passed through a bounded zone of transport towards the front of the machine until it reaches the other end of thereof. In a third step, the substrate is passed through a zone of transport towards the rear of the vessel so as to return the substrate to the first end, the zones of transport towards the front and towards the rear being separated from each other by a tubular partition. During the return transport the substrate may be subjected to tumbling. The second and third steps are repeated as many times as necessary to obtain homogeneous and at least partial sterilisation or homogeneous and complete pasteurisation of said substrate. A machine is also described for carrying out the method. Application to sterilising or pasteurising organic substrate such as growth media for plants or mushrooms.

    • Material to be treated, such as medical waste is placed in a chamber (3) which is then partially evacuated by a vacuum pump (37) via a mixing chamber (35) and a non-return valve (31).     • This invention provides a process of operation of a suction system which provides simultaneous decontamination of the suction system and a process for preventing accumulation of contaminants in the suction system. Due to a vacuum created by a vacuum pump, waste mixtures are extracted and flow, via high-speed and low-speed vacuum lines, to a vacuum trap housing which contains a vacuum trap having a solid-collecting screen. Decontaminants, preferably water-soluble decontaminants and preferably in the form of tablets, are placed in the vacuum trap housing on the solid-collecting screen and can also be placed adjacent to a number of other filters at positions selected such that each waste mixture comes into contact with and is treated by the decontaminant before leaving the suction system. Activation of the decontaminant by each waste mixture causes the decontamination of the waste mixture and the breakdown and decontamination of accumulations in the suction system. The treated waste mixture flows from the vacuum trap housing via a main vacuum line, connecting the vacuum trap housing to the vacuum pump, towards the vacuum pump which is preceded by the number of filters. When the flow of the waste mixture stops and the decontaminant become dry, the release of the decontaminant is automatically discontinued.
