    • A closed loop MIMO feedback system is described in which the number of available antenna ports is less than the number of antenna elements. In one implementation, sounding reference signals, received from a number of UEs, may be used, by a base station, to generate and transmit a number of OFDMA Channel State Information Reference Signals (CSI-RSs). The OFDMA CSI-RSs may be determined based on the top eigen beams associated with an average channel covariance matrix determined based on the received sounding reference signals. A UE, in response to receiving the OFDMA CSI-RSs, may determine a preferred eigen beam and transmit a quantized version of the preferred eigen beam back to the eNB. Subsequent communications with the UE may be made using beamforming techniques that are based on the quantized version of the preferred eigen beam.

    • The present disclosure relates to random access in wireless communication systems, and in particular to a wireless device, a preamble receiver, and methods for processing random access preamble signals. A disclosed method in a wireless device comprises generating (S11) one or more identical short sequences having a same time duration as an OFDM symbol used for carrying data traffic in a radio access network of the wireless device. The method also comprises generating (S12) at least one offset indicator sequence different from each of the short sequences, and constructing (S13) the preamble sequence by concatenating the at least one offset indicator sequence and the one or more identical short sequences in time, such that each of the at least one offset indicator sequence has a respective pre-determined location in the preamble sequence.

    • Systems, methods, and apparatuses for user equipment (UE) autonomous radio resource configuration extension are provided. As disclosed herein, a UE may operate in dual connectivity with two (or more) base stations, each providing a set of carriers (e.g., cell groups) for wireless communication. The UE may have a simultaneous connection with a carrier from each base station and may autonomously determine a timing difference between carriers of respective cell groups. The UE may adjust the timing of an operation in relation to a radio resource configuration of one or both carriers to account for the difference. In some examples, the UE autonomously adjusts a measurement gap operation or adjusts a discontinuous reception (DRX) operation to account for a determined timing difference between carriers. The autonomous UE timing adjustments may include extending or offsetting a time duration or adjusting one or more subframes in which the operation is performed.

    • A communications device is configured to transmit data to a mobile communications network. The mobile communications network includes one or more network elements providing a wireless access interface for communicating with the communications device. The communications device comprises a transmitter configured to transmit signals to the mobile communications network via the wireless access interface provided by the one or more network elements of the mobile communications network, and a receiver configured to receive signals from the mobile communications network via the wireless access interface provided by the one or more network elements of the mobile communications network, and a controller configured to control the transmitter to transmit a random access message to a first network element via a random access channel of the wireless access interface which is common to one or more other communications devices, to receive an acknowledgement in response to the random access message providing an indication of an allocation of the communications resources of the shared up-link channel for the communications device to transmit signals to the mobile communications network or a negative acknowledgment providing an indication that the communications device has not been allocated communications resources of the shared up-link channel, wherein in response to detection of one or more random access failure conditions by the controller, the controller is configured in combination with the transmitter to re-transmit the random access message one or more times, each re-transmission of the random access message being after a variable delay which is greater than or equal to the delay of a previous re-transmission for each re-transmission. Accordingly by re-transmitting a random access message after detection of a random access failure condition such as might occur if the network element is not able to cope with a volume of random access messages, then by increasing the delay between re-transmissions of the random access messages, there is a greater likelihood that the congestion will clear enough for a response to be transmitted to the network element.
