    • A photo album is edited and printed distributed over a client server system. A server system stores low quality and high quality digital representations of photographs. The server system sends low quality digital representations to a client computer remote from the server system in association with respective identifiers of the photographs. A user edits an electronic representation of pages of the photo album at the client computer, using an interactive display with the low quality digital representations of interactively selected photographs. After editing the client computer sends an editing result to the server system, including identifiers of the selected photographs. The server system retrieves an prints the stored high quality digital representation of the selected photographs identified by the identifiers. The user also selects positions of the photographs on pages, preferably using positions from selectable templates. The client computer may also perform user selected transformations of the photographs, transformation commands being sent to the server system to execute corresponding transformations on the high quality representations before printing.

The device (1) processes the electronic image to identify one or more features relevant to the composition of the electronic image, each such feature having one or more compositionally significant properties from amongst a plurality of different predetermined compositional properties, and each such feature occupying a sub-region of the electronic image. Then the device (1) selects one or more compositional rules from a set of predetermined compositional rules, based on the relevance of the compositional rule(s) to the compositionally significant properties of one or more of the identified features. Then the device (1) determines one or more suitable crop boundaries by applying one or more of the selected compositional rules.

    • The invention relates to a method for the electronic assembly of forms by means of an assembly station. Used as the assembly station is a work station which is connected to a server via a local-area network. The assembly station is used to impose the pages to give a form, creating a PostScript form file which contains all the data necessary for the form to be printed at a printing station. Individual PostScript pages are stored successively in one or more print-to-disk files as PostScript job in the server. The print-to-disk file or files are loaded via the local-area network into the assembly station together with data indicating which pages are being loaded and what position each page occupies in its print-to-disk file. At the assembly station, a first PostScript form file is created which, instead of the contents of the individual pages in the print-to-disk file or files, contains imposing commands which indicate where the individual pages should be located in the form and where the individual pages are in the print-to-disk file or files. The first PostScript form file thus created is transmitted via the local-area network to the server where a second PostScript form file is created by using the imposing commands to call up the contents of the pages in the form from the print-to-disk file or files in the server and insert them into the first PostScript form file transmitted from the assembly station to the server at the places where they should be located in the form. This second PostScript form file is then transmitted by the server to the printing station for the form to be printed.

    • Selective copying apparatus wherein selected portions of a source document are printed onto a paper at any position on the paper and wherein information is deleted or inserted by the user from an input keyboard (110).
