    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for motion vector encoding/decoding using spatial division, and to a method and apparatus for image encoding/decoding using same. The present invention provides a motion vector encoding method comprising: collecting predictor motion vector candidates of the current block into a plurality of groups; selecting, as a representative predictor motion vector, one predictor motion vector candidate from among the predictor motion vector candidates in each group, such that representative predictor motion vectors for respective groups can be selected; selecting, as a predictor motion vector, one representative predictor motion vector from among the representative predictor motion vectors of the groups; and encoding a differential vector which is a difference between the current motion vector and the selected predictor motion vector of the current block. According to the present invention, an increase in bit rate, caused by encoding side information for indicating which predictor motion vector is selected, can be suppressed while reducing the size of the differential vector to be encoded, thus improving motion vector encoding efficiency and ultimately improving image compression efficiency.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for encoding/decoding a motion vector by selecting a set of predicted candidate motion vectors, and a method and apparatus for image encoding/decoding using the same. The method for encoding a motion vector according to the present invention comprises: selecting one set of predicted candidate motion vectors among plural sets of predicted candidate motion vectors by using information about motions of neighboring blocks of a current block; selecting one of the predicted candidate motion vectors in the selected set of predicted candidate motion vectors as a predicted motion vector; encoding a differential vector which represents the difference between the current motion vector as a motion vector of the current block and the predicted motion vector being selected; and encoding a predicted motion vector index that represents the predicted motion vector being selected. According to the present invention, as a motion vector is encoded by selecting an efficient set of predicted candidate motion vectors, the magnitude of a differential vector to be encoded can be reduced without necessarily encoding additional information to indicate which set of predicted candidate motion vectors has been selected. In result, the compression efficiency of a motion vector and further the compression efficiency of an image can be improved.
