    • A method and apparatus are provided for multi-cell cooperation when multiple cells are cooperating to transmit data to a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs), and each cell is using a common precoding matrix. The level of information exchanged among the cells may depend on the particular cooperation architecture. The cells may share information such as channel state information (CSI), a channel quality indicator (CQI), or both. The cells may share rank indications reported by the WTRUs. The cells may also share the data that is being transmitted to the WTRUs. The method and apparatus may also determine precoding vectors for closed-loop precoding; a CQI, CSI and rank, and distributed space-time/frequency coding with multi-cell cooperation. The method and apparatus may also perform hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) with multi-cell cooperation, and downlink control signaling.

    • A transmitting station performs closed loop power control prior to a transmission pause. A closed loop transmission power level prior to the pause is determined. A reference signal is received and a received power level of the reference signal prior to and during the transmission pause is determined. The measured reference signal received power levels are compared to a transmit power level of the reference signals to produce a pathloss estimate of the reference signal prior to and during the transmission pause. A new transmit power level is determined by adjusting the closed loop transmission power level by a change between the prior to and during pathloss estimates. A transmission power level of the transmitting station is set to the determined new transmit power level. A communication is transmitted at the set transmission power level.

    • A method and apparatus for performing signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimation in wireless communications, using a demodulator (505) output, such as a Rake output or a multi-user detection (MUD) receiver output. The demodulator (505) output is fed into a SIR estimator (400) to perform the SIR estimation based on estimated average signal power (610) and estimated average effective interference power (615). The estimated average signal power (615) is based on a minimum value function used for determining a minimum value between a median based average power value and a mean based average power value. The SIR estimator (400) reduces bias effects on SIR estimation, and is applicable to BPSK and QPSK modulation schemes, as well as higher order modulation schemes such as 8-PSK and 16-QAM. A correction term is used as a function of the mean and median values to further mitigate the bias effect.
