    • A transceiver of a user equipment comprises a receiving stage, a frontend channel estimator, a frontend channel equalizer, a backend channel estimator, and a backend channel equalizer. The receiving stage is configured to receive an inbound signal from a SUDAC, which enables a relay communication comprising a frontend communication using extremely-high frequencies and a backend communication using ultra-high frequencies. The inbound signal comprises a data portion, a backend control portion and a frontend control portion, the frontend control portion comprising a frontend evaluation signal and a configuration signal. The frontend channel estimator is configured to perform a channel estimation based on the frontend evaluation signal wherein the frontend channel equalizer is configured to equalize distortions, caused by using the extremely-high frequencies, based on the channel estimation of the frontend channel estimator. The backend channel estimator is configured to perform a channel estimation based on the backend control portion wherein the backend channel equalizer is configured to equalize distortions, caused by using the ultra-high frequencies, based on the channel estimation of the backend channel estimator.

    • Embodiments of the present invention provide methods and apparatus for antenna calibration in TDD systems. One aspect of the invention provides a method in a device equipped with multiple antennas, the method comprising self-calibrating the multiple antennas, such that transmitting gain to receiving gain ratio for each of the multiple antennas is the same; generating a first precoding matrix; applying the first precoding matrix to the multiple antennas to form a virtual antenna, and transmitting a reference signal to a second device via the virtual antenna, wherein the reference signal is to be used for channel estimation to facilitate antenna calibration at the first device and/or the second device. Corresponding methods and apparatus to assist the above method are also provided. By implementing some embodiments of the invention, more accurate antenna calibration can be provided and thus improve the performance of the TDD system.

    • An example system comprises a first antenna and a modem. The first antenna is configured to receive a signal from a transmitting radio frequency unit. The signal includes data and a known sequence. The modem is configured to retrieve the known sequence from the signal, transform the known sequence and the data into a frequency domain, calculate averages of groups of neighboring frequency points in the frequency domain to reduce the effect of nonlinear noise in the signal, the neighboring frequency points corresponding to the preamble in the frequency domain, compare the calculated averages to an expected frequency response in the frequency domain, determine a correction filter to apply to the data based on the comparison, apply the correction filter on the data in the frequency domain to create corrected data, transform the corrected data from the frequency domain to the time domain, and provide the data.

The invention further relates to a method and apparatus for receiving data transmitted via wireless transmission to a plurality of beams through a plurality of transmit feeds and estimating a channel on the basis of the received data. The present invention is advantageously applicable to satellite communication systems.
