    • A gas generator particularly useful as a component in a fluid dispensing apparatus. The generator produces gas at a relatively constant rate and, in a preferred embodiment, at a rate which has a reduced dependence on ambient temperature. The gas generator comprises a liquid and a solid composition. The solid composition may be a first reagent dispersed in an inert solid or may consist essentially of the first reagent. In either case the solid composition, following contact with the liquid, reacts to generate a gas for at least about 20 hours during which at any elapsed time, t, of the reaction V = Y't where V = volume of gas produced as measured at constant temperature and pressure; Y = a rate constant related to the rate of reaction; m = any value between about 0.5 to about 1.3 when the temperature is constant. Preferably, the reaction has an m value within the foregoing range when the temperature is constant at some value within the range of about -30 DEG C to about 40 DEG C. The reaction is also preferably selected such that the apparent activation energy is no greater than about 40 kJ/mole, and preferably no greater than about 30 kJ/mole.

    • This invention relates to a self-generating pressure applying device to provide pressure on material within a container to dispense the material. A problem exists with the size and shape of some containers in association with the materials therein in dispensing all of the material. An expandable pouch (2) is provided, for applying a pressure to a material in a container so that it is dispensed, comprising two superposed sheets of gas and liquid impermeable material with the edge portions (8), (10) permanently sealed. A semi-permanent peelable strip (20) joins the two sheets to form one compartment and at least another compartment. The one compartment is divided into first (22), second (24) and third (26) sub-compartments by semi-permanent peelable strips (18). A first reactive component (30) of a chemical gas generating system is in the first sub-compartment and a second reactive component (32) in the third sub-compartment.

    • A method is provided for filling a container system for a cosmetic product that has a hollow pressure containment vessel defining a chamber that encloses a sealed, collapsible, air-less pouch container containing product to be dispensed. A fermentation propulsion system is provided between the inner wall of the chamber and the air-less pouch container. The fermentation propulsion system comprises a quantity of yeast able to generate fermentation gas within the chamber, a quantity of sugar for the yeast to consume to fuel the fermentation process, and a yeast extract to boost fermentation activity. The fermentation gas serves as propellant for dispensing the product by applying pressure to the pouch container. A valve is secured in the opening of the vessel such that the chamber is hermetically sealed, and so that product can be selectively dispensed from the vessel.

    • A system for pressurizing a dispensing container (410) may be in the form of a package (250) which includes an outer pouch (300) and an inner pouch (200). The inner pouch (200) may be a pressure pouch having multiple compartments (210, 212) and components of a gas generating system contained within the compartments (210, 212). The outer pouch (300) may be sized so that it will not open when the pressure pouch (200) is initially activated but will only open after a first quantity of product (412) is dispensed from the dispensing container (410). The outer pouch serves to maintain the folded configuration of the pressure pouch (200) until after a first quantity of product (412) is fist dispensed from the container (410). This, in turn, prevents entrapment, of the pressure pouch reactive components, from occurring. The outer pouch (300) also serves to prevent the pressure pouch (200) from coming into contact with the product (412) until after a first quantity of product (412) is first dispensed from the container (410).
