摘要： Glass manufacturing apparatuses with cooling devices and methods for using the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus for forming a glass web from molten glass includes an enclosure and pulling rolls that cooperate to draw a glass web in a draw direction rotatably positioned in an interior of the enclosure. A cooling device for extracting heat from the glass web is in fluid communication with a cooling fluid source and includes an actively cooled flapper disposed in the interior of the enclosure that is movable to facilitate varying the heat extraction. The actively cooled flapper serves as a heat sink in the interior of the enclosure and the cooling fluid extracts heat from the actively cooled flapper to remove heat from the glass web and the enclosure.

摘要： Methods of strengthening the edge surfaces of a glass substrate, and particularly glass substrates contained within a display panel, are disclosed. The methods include exposing edges of the display panel to an acid solution for a time and at a temperature effective to remove no more than about 20 micrometers of glass from edge surfaces, rinsing the acid solution from the edge and applying a polymer protective coating to the rinsed edge to maintain the post- etching strength of the edge surfaces. Electronics on the display panel that may be exposed to the acid solution are masked with a terminal mask prior to the etching. The edge etching may be combined with etching of a surface of the display panel/cover glass substrate.

In further examples, methods are provided with the step of passing molten glass through the interior pathway of the cooling conduit to pass the molten glass from the first conditioning station to the second conditioning station.
